    What: Flybe/ Loganair Saab 340B en route from Kirkwall to Invernes
    Where: diverted to Wick Airport
    When: Feb 4 2010
    Who: 13 passengers
    Why: Well into the flight the right engine began smoking, and smoke was reported in the cockpit. After the engine was shut down, the flight diverted to Wick and made a safe landing.

    A plane was diverted from Aberdeen to Wick to port the stranded passengers to their destination.

    ANA Flight Returns to Narita Airport Due to Engine Vibrations

    ANAAll Nippon Airways flight NH-829 made an emergency landing at Narita International Airport, Japan, on August 30th.

    The plane took off for Mumbai, India, but had to return shortly afterwards due to vibrations in left engine.

    The plane landed uneventfully. There were 68 people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Duplin County

    emergencyA small plane made an emergency landing on Highway 11 near Garland King Road in Duplin County, North Carolina, on December 21.

    The pilot Richard Kenny said he was forced to land on the highway after his plane ran out of fuel. He was heading from Long Island, New York, to Orlando, Florida, at the time.

    The plane hit a highway sign while landing. No injuries were reported.

    American Airlines Plane Returns to Newark due to Bird Strike

    American AirlinesAmerican Airlines flight AA-1051 had to return and make an emergency landing in Newark, New Jersey, on June 19th.

    The plane took off for O’Hare International Airport, Chicago, Illinois, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    United Airlines Flight Returns to SFO

    United airlinesUnited Airlines Flight 5064 had to return and make an emergency landing at San Francisco International Airport, California, on April 1.

    The plane, bound for Calgary, Canada, had to turn back some 30 minutes into the flight after the crew reported smoky odor in the cabin.

    The plane landed uneventfully and everyone aboard remained safe.

    The flight was being operated by SkyWest Airlines.

    Scary Diversion to Peoria: weather, smoke, jumping from plane

    What: American Eagle Canadair CRJ-700 en route from Denver to Chicago
    Where: Peoria
    When: July 18, 2012
    Who: 53 passengers, 4 crew
    Why: The flight was en route when bad weather in Chicago made the pilot divert to Peoria.

    On approach, when the wheels came down, smoke came down from the cabin ceiling. The pilot made an emergency landing, and emergency vehicles were on standby.

    The video shows how passengers jumped from the plane, one by one. A single passenger injured an ankle while disembarking.

    A shuttle was provided for passengers to get to Chicago
