    Qantas Flight Diverts to Jakarta due to Low Visibility

    QantasQantas QF51 made an emergency landing at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Jakarta, Indonesia, on September 29.

    The plane, heading from Brisbane, Australia, to Singapore, was diverted after the pilot reported low visibility due to haze. General manager of Jakarta’s Air Traffic Service Centre, Bambang Rianto, said the pilot reported that visibility was below the safety threshold limit of 1400 meters.

    The plane landed safely.

    No one was hurt.

    Virgin Atlantic Plane Returns to Gatwick Airport due to Landing Gear Problem

    Virgin AtlanticVirgin Atlantic flight VS43 had to return and make an emergency landing at Gatwick Airport in Sussex, England, on December 29.

    According to an airline statement, “Virgin Atlantic can confirm that flight VS43 on 29 December, travelling to McCarran international airport Las Vegas, returned to Gatwick due to a technical issue with one of the landing gears.”

    The Boeing 747 circled over the south coast of England before it landed uneventfully, shortly before 16:00 GMT. No one aboard was injured.

    Enrique Inclesias Emergency Landing

    What: private plane
    Where: flying over the Atlantic emergency when there was a problem with one of the engines. Landing at the the Bedfordshire airport in Luton and then flew on to London on the same plane.
    When: Monday
    Who: Enrique Iglesias
    Why:After engine trouble, the pilot shut down one of the jet’s engines, and made an emergency landing at the nearest airport.

    Aer Lingus Plane Returns to Dublin Airport

    Aer LingusAer Lingus flight EI352 returned and made an emergency landing at Dublin Airport, Ireland, on October 3.

    The plane was heading to Munich, Germany, when the crew reported fumes in cabin and requested an emergency landing.

    The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained unhurt.

    The airline accommodated the passengers in other flights.

    Helicopter Crash in UK

    What: Helicopter out of Blackpool Airport
    Where: Barnaby Sands on the Lancashire coast near Fleetwood.
    When: 23 September 2009
    Who: Pilot and student: Pilot Steven Lewis, 38, from Rainhill, Merseyside, died along with Philip Gray, 45, of Mawdesley, Lancashire.
    Why: The helicopter crashed on a training flight. The pilot issued a mayday based on engine troubles, and steered away from populated areas, hoping to find a softer landing.

    Flybe Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Manchester Airport

    Flybe flight BE-1333 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Manchester, England on February 26th.

    The plane heading from Edinburgh, Scotland, to London City Airport, England, was diverted due to an unusual odor in the cockpit.

    The plane landed safely. All sixty-three people aboard remained unharmed.
