    American Airlines Plane Returns to Heathrow after Medical Emergency

    American AirlinesAmerican Airlines flight AA109 had to return and make an emergency landing at London’s Heathrow Airport, on January 27.

    The Boeing 777 took off for Los Angeles, California, but had to return shortly afterwards after two passengers and several crew members fell ill midair.

    The plane, carrying 172 passengers and 16 crew members, landed uneventfully. The patients were evaluated by paramedics.

    The airline said, “Our maintenance team conducted a thorough inspection of the aircraft, including a test flight, and found no issues with the Boeing 777-300. Out of an abundance of caution, all of the air filters on the aircraft were replaced.”

    AtlasGlobal Plane Diverts to Turkey after Problem with Nose Gear

    AtlasGlobalAtlasGlobal flight KK-1019 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Antalya Airport, Antalya, Turkey, on April 14th.

    The Airbus A321-200, en-route from Ercan, Cyprus to Istanbul, Turkey, was mid-air when the crew detected a problem with the nose gear, prompting the plane to divert.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    All passengers onboard remained unharmed.

    The passengers were accommodated in a replacement plane.

    What: Virgin Atlantic Airbus A340-300 en route from London to Miami
    Where: London
    When: Mar 12th 2010
    Who: 231 passengers, 14 crew
    Why: After takeoff, the plane was struck by lightning. Experiencing a technical problem after the lightning strike, they dumped fuel (over the coast of N. Wales) and returned to London where they made a safe landing.

    What: IndiGo Airbus A320-200 en route from Bhubaneshwar to Delhi
    Where: Biju Patnaik Airport, Bhubaneshwar
    When: Aug 28th 2010
    Who: 140 passengers and 6 crew
    Why: On takeoff, the Airbus suffered a bird strike. Ground crew witnessed a part or parts falling. The crew decided to return to Bhubaneshwar where they made a safe landing.

    A replacement jet is being flown in to complete the Hyderabad-Bhubaneswar-New Delhi flight.

    Aeroflot Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Cargo Door Indication

    Aeroflot flight SU-1485 had to return and make an emergency landing at Yemelyanovo International Airport, Russia, on November 13th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Sheremetyevo International Airport, Russia, but had to turn back due to indication of an open cargo door.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Gulf Air Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Bahrain

    Gulf Air flight GF-506 had to return for an emergency landing in Bahrain, on March 9th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Dubai, United Arab Emirates, but had to return shortly afterwards after the first officer reported feeling unwell.

    The plane landed back safely. The first officer was shifted to hospital.
