Cathay Dragon Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Hong Kong
Cathay Dragon flight KA-296 made an emergency landing in Hong Kong, China, on June 16th.
The Airbus A320-200 plane flying from Hanoi, Vietnam, was descending toward Hong Kong when the crew noticed smell of smoke in the cockpit and requested priority landing.
The plane landed safely. There were one hundred and fifty-nine people aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

What: Air China Boeing en route from Beijing to NY Where: Beijing When: August 29, 2012 Why: Passengers aboard an Air China Flight were flown back to Beijing and told there was a “map display error or due to turbulence.” On landing, the captain told passengers there had been a threatening message. Passengers disembarked through security and were provided an alternative flight.
“Due to threatening information received about flight CA 981, to ensure the safety of passengers, this flight has returned to Beijing Capital International Airport.”

A British Airways flight made an emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport in Newark, on June 1st.
Authorities said a security alert was issued about the British Airways plane that was flying from London, United Kingdom.
An airline spokesperson said, “The aircraft has landed normally. Security checks will carried out as a precaution…We do not discuss details of operational security. The safety and security of our customers and crew is our number one priority.”
The plane was carrying 206 passengers and 13 crew members at the time.

What: Horizon Air de Havilland Dash 8-400 en route from Portland,OR to Seattle,WA Where: Portland When: Jan 26 2012 Who: 55 passengers, 4 crew Why: While en route, the right engine was shut down. According to wptv witnesses aboard the flight, “there was an explosion. Then, all of a sudden, everything stopped, and it just got totally quiet, and everyone started to panic.” Passengers took photos of the plane’s stopped propellor; and then the plane began shaking, and they could feel the weight on the left side.
Pilots returned to Portland and made a safe landing. An inspection of the plane is underway.
A replacement jet was provided.
