    What: United Airlines Boeing 737-800 en route from Sacramento to Houston
    Where: Sacramento
    When: January 21, 2012 6:00 a.m.
    Who: 0 injuries
    Why: On takeoff, the plane suffered a bird strike which damaged an engine. The plane landed, and passengers disembarked. Passengers were provided alternatives, but the United Airlines Boeing is out of commission until repairs can be made.

    Turkish Airlines Flight Returns to Istanbul After Bird Strike

    Turkish Airlines flight TK-629 had to return and make an emergency landing in Istanbul, Turkey, on November 28th.

    The Boeing 737-8 MAX plane took off for Accra, Ghana, but had to turn back due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Bangalore Helicopter Dodges Wires and Crowded City to Land on Rooftop


    What: HAL Rotary Wing Academy Schweizer 269C (300C)
    Where: Byapanahalli area, northeast Bangalore, India
    When: April 12, 2012, 4:30 pm
    Who: 2 aboard, 0 fatalities
    Why: After a two hour ten minute flight, the helicopter on a training flight developed engine failure, dodged high-tension wires and other buildings to land on a Bangalore roof.

    The Schweizer 269C is a light four year old plane used for civilian training.

    The helicopter was damaged during the emergency landing, rolling over on its side on the rooftop of Maitri Apartments in the Byapanahalli area in North East Bangalore and leaking some of the 20 litres of fuel it carried. The rotors were blown off on impact with the parapet. Retired Air Commodore Roj Assey and trainee Digvijay Singh survived the emergency landing uninjured.

    The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is investigating.

    Tire, Landing Gear Fail on Sky Airlines Antalya Landing

    What: Sky Airlines Boeing 737-400 en route from Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden (Germany) to Antalya (Turkey)
    Where: Antalya on
    When: Oct 10th 2011
    Who: 156 passengers and 6 crew
    Why: After a normal flight, on landing in Turkey, the plane’s right main gear collapsed when a right tire burst.

    One cause for a burst tire is a hard or fast landing, or the state of the runway. The cause has not yet been determined.

    In the accident photos (according to AV gossip), the logo has been painted out with white paint.

    Qatar Airways Plane Makes Hard Landing in India

    Qatar Airways flight QR-516 made a hard landing at Cochin International Airport, Kerala, India, on July 13th.

    The Airbus A330-300 flying from Doha, Qatar, had touched the runway in the wrong line, damaging the runway lights.

    The plane landed safely.

    No injuries were reported.

    KrasAvia Aborts Takeoff in Russia due to Aircraft Steering Problem

    KrasAviaKrasAvia flight KI-48 had to abort taking-off at Shushenskoye Airport, Kazantsevo, UNAU, Russia, on July 18th.

    The Let L-410 was ready to depart for Krasnojarsk, Russia when the crew aborted the takeoff after the aircraft started steering left instead of straight ahead.

    The flight was cancelled.

    All 13 passengers were accommodated in a bus to Krasnojarsk.
