    What: Hawaiian Airlines Boeing 717-200 en route from Honolulu to Kahului
    Where: Honolulu
    When: Jun 3rd 2010
    Who: 117 people on board,
    Why: After takeoff, smoke was seen coming from the plane’s engine, and the crew observed irregular indications. The flight returned to Honolulu for maintenance. A replacement jet was provided.

    Etihad Airways Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Zurich

    Etihad Airways flight EY-73 made an emergency landing in Zurich, Switzerland, on June 18th.

    The Boeing 787-900 plane flying from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, was on approach to Zurich when the crew reported an issue with the flaps and aborted the approach.

    The plane subsequently landed at higher than normal speed. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    GoAir Flight Returns to Delhi After Bird Strike

    GoAir flight G8-140 had to return and make an emergency landing in Delhi, India, on November 18th.

    The Airbus A320-200N plane took off for Patna, India, but had to turn back due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred and seventy-four people aboard remained unharmed.

    Executive Runway Excursion, Barbados


    An Executive Air Piper PA-34 Seneca en route from Grantley Adams International Airport (Seawell, Christ Church on the island of Barbados) en route to Maurice Bishop International Airport (St. Georges, Granada) took off, but sustained an unsafe gear warning.

    Pilots returned to Seawell, and made a semi safe landing (as the two pilots and two passengers were uninjured) but on landing, the right main gear collapsed.

    The plane had a runway excursion. Emergency services responded to the scene, and the plane was foamed to prevent a fire.

    Lufthansa Flight Diverts to Copenhagen due to Electrical Smell

    LufthansaLufthansa flight LH-848 made an emergency landing in Copenhagen, Denmark, on March 15th.

    The Airbus A321-200, heading from Frankfurt, Germany, to Helsinki, Finland, was diverted after the crew reported an electrical smell onboard.

    The plane landed uneventfully. There were 137 people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

    The airline re-booked the passengers onto other flights.

    British Airways Crew-only Flight Home Interrupted

    What: British Airways en route from Boston to London
    Where: Logan International Airport
    When: Jan 31, 2011
    Who: 13 crew
    Why: After taking off for London, smoke was reported in the cabin. Pilots returned to Logan and made safe landing at 8:16 am. Maintenance determined that oil from an auxiliary power unit for an air conditioner was the problem.
