    Delta Airlines Plane Returns to France after Engine Failure

    250px-Delta_logo.svgDelta Airlines flight DL-97 had to return and make an emergency landing at Charles de Gaulle Airport, France, on July 11th.

    The Boeing 757-200, en-route to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, had to return due to failure of its right hand engine.

    The plane landed safely.

    Bird-Hit Avianca Brazil Airlines Flight Safely Lands in Rio de Janeiro

    AviancaAvianca Brazil Airlines flight O6-6235 made a safe landing after a bird strike in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 10th.

    The Airbus A318-100 plane was flying from Brasilia, Brazil, when a vulture hit it, damaging the radome.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Who: Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva
    Why: The plane landed at Cumbica air base at 1046 GMT, because a light on the pilot’s control panel indicated that the cargo compartment wasn’t properly closed. The cargo compartment was closed, but the control panel was in error. The plane took off again at 9:31 am.

    Saudi Arabian Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Jeddah; 53 Injured

    Saudi Arabian Airlines flight SV-3818 made an emergency landing in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on May 21st.

    The plane heading from Medina, Saudi Arabia, to Dhaka, Bangladesh, was diverted due to a hydraulic failure.

    On approach to Jeddah, the crew received an unsafe gear indication and entered a hold. The plane subsequently landed without nose gear.

    The plane was evacuated. One passenger sustained serious injuries during evacuation while fifty-two others received minor injuries.

    Smoke Warning Prompts IndiGo Flight to Make Emergency Landing in Indore

    IndiGo AirlinesIndiGo flight 6E-496 made an emergency landing at Devi Ahilyabai airport in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India, on March 11.

    The crew declared emergency after a warning system indicated smoke in the cargo area. The flight was en-route from Mumbai to Indore at the time.

    The plane landed uneventfully, around 4 minutes before its scheduled landing time. All 181 passengers remained unharmed.

    Investigation into the incident is underway.

    Where: Hyderabad
    When: Sep 1st 2009
    Who: 99 aboard
    Why: While over Hyderabad, smoke was seen coming from an engine, and the fire alert went off. The plane managed a safe landing. It was not noted if the passengers debarked normally, or by slides, but no injuries were reported.
