American Airlines flight AA-153 had to return and make an emergency landing in Chicago, Illinois, on July 9th.
The Boeing 787-800 plane took off for Tokyo Narita Airport, Japan, but had to turn back due to a cracked windshield.
The plane landed safely. All one hundred and sixty-four passengers and thirteen crew members remained unharmed.
A small plane had to make an emergency landing in a field near DuPage Airport in West Chicago, Illinois, on October 11.
Authorities said the BE36 plane landed in emergency after experiencing engine failure.
The pilot, who was the only one aboard, remained safe.
The FAA was investigating.

What: Sriwijaya Boeing 737-400 en route Jakarta to Pontianak
Where: Kalimantan
When: June 1, 2012
Who: 163 passengers
Why: On landing on the ungrooved runway in Pontianak-Supadio Intl airport in “wet and windy conditions,” the plane skidded off the runway, incurring significant damages. Passengers evacuated directly on to the landing area.
The transportation ministry told Agence France Presse that “the nosewheel is broken and the landing gear sunk into the soft soil.”
The right wing is damaged, and the airport was closed as the situation was handled.
According to JADEC, the weather was “WIOO 010530Z 23022KT 0600 FEW009CB BKN007 29/25 Q1008 RMK CB OVER THE FIELD”
The NTSC is investigating.
On July 6 2013, an Asiana Airlines Boeing 777 Flight 214 en route from Taipei made a hard landing on runway 28 at San Francisco international airport.
Rescue services—firefighters and ambulances—responded to the scene.
Passengers exited via air slides. On the video below, it appears the tail is missing. Other video shows the top of the aircraft is charred.
The Asiana Airlines #HL7742 landed hard, slid and/or cartwheeled, and came to rest with landing gear not visible. Debris–apparently the landing gear–is scattered down the runway. Smoke appeared to be coming from the side of the plane opposite from where passengers were exiting via slides. After the plane was on the ground, witnesses saw parts break off and a ball of fire. The attitude of the plane seemed normal but an apparent tailstrike may have damaged systems and limited flight control.
Air traffic to San Francisco international airport has been suspended.

NTSB Go-Team Pre-Departure Press Avail on Asiana B-777 Crash
WHAT: Press Availability with Chairman Deborah A.P. Hersman as the NTSB go-team departs to San Francisco to investigate the crash landing of an Asiana Boeing 777.

We do not know, for example, if some part or software in the plane malfunctioned, leading the pilots to respond as they did.
A single engine Cirrus plane carrying 2 people, made an emergency landing at Santa Barbara Airport, California, at about 12:15 p.m. on June 24.
According to Santa Barbara Fire Captain Gary Pitney, the accident happened after the plane developed a throttle-control problem while preparing to land at the airport. The pilot then had to cut off the fuel supply to the engine and make a hard landing. The plane landed on the paved over-run area and then ran off before coming to stop about 300 feet from Tecolotito creek.
Pitney also said that the pilot remained in contact with the control tower during the whole time.
Both people aboard remained unharmed, although the plane sustained some minor damage.
Nouvelair flight BJ-518 had to return and make an emergency landing in Djerba, Tunisia, on January 15th.
The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Charles de Gaulle Airport, France, but had to turn back due to an issue with the Inertial Reference Systems (IRS).
The plane landed uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.
The AirAsia Flight FD 3187 had to make an emergency landing at Thailand’s Phuket International Airport, due to bird strike, on August 5.
The flight, carrying 153 passengers and 6 crew members, was on its way from Nakorn Sri Thammarat to Bangkok when a bird smashed into one of the engine intakes and damaged the engine of the Airbus A320-200.
The plane landed safely at about 5:15 p.m.
The airline provided an alternate aircraft to take the passengers to their destination.
