Delta Airlines flight DL-1157 had to reject takeoff from Los Angeles, California, on July 9th.
The Boeing 737-800 plane was accelerating to takeoff for Kansas City, Missouri, when the crew rejected takeoff due to an engine failure.
The plane stopped safely and was towed to the apron. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
According to the FAA, the faulty engine also left shrapnel on the runway.

Why: After takeoff, the right engine developed problems. The pilot shut down the engine and diverted to McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas where they made a safe landing.
Passengers were provided alternative flights. There were no injuries.
Allegiant Air flight 738 made an emergency landing in Savannah, Georgia, on April 27th.
Passengers reported that the plane flying from Orlando, Florida, to Elmira/Corning Regional Airport, New York, was diverted due to electrical issues.
The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
Peruvian Airlines flight P9-218 had to reject takeoff at Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport, Cusco, Peru, on March 20.
The Boeing 727-500 was about to take off from Cusco to Lima, Peru, when its right hand tyre burst and the plane veered off the runway, coming to a stop on soft ground.
The crew rejected takeoff.
All 120 people aboard remained unharmed.
Delta Airlines flight DL-151 had to return to Atlanta, Georgia, on June 14th.
The Boeing 767-400 plane took off for Lima, Peru, but had to turn back due to an engine problem.
On approach to Atlanta, the crew also reported a flaps problem. The plane subsequently landed at higher than normal speed.
All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
British Airways flight BA-123 had to return and make an emergency landing at Heathrow Airport, United Kingdom, on February 12th.
The Boeing 777-200 plane took off for Doha, Qatar, but had to turn back after the crew reported an electrical odor onboard.
The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.
Although the Malaysia Airlines has denied reports of a beacon, the Malaysian navy has said publicly they have tracked the wreckage of the missing Malaysia Flight MH370, and has dispatched a plane, two helicopters and four vessels i addition to the Philippines three navy patrol boats and one surveillance plane. Chinese ships and aircraft are on standby with eight ships belonging to the Nanhai Rescue Bureau and the Hainan Maritime Safety Administration, and a supporting air fleet. Boeing expressed their concern and are sending a team to assist the investigation.
Meanwhile, in spite of the airline telling the public the whereabouts are unknown, families are being told to take their valid passports to KLIA airport before 6 pm for MAS travel arrangements to the crash site.
If the plane is down (and even if it is magic thinking, we are still hoping it landed safely somewhere), search and rescue is still within the “24-hour golden window” in which it is more likely to find survivors. The plane that is missing is registration number 9M-MRO. In September 2012, the plane was on the ground and suffered an airfield incursion when it collided with a China Eastern Airlines’ Airbus.
