    Continental Emergency Landing in San Antonio when Landing Gear Failed

    What: Continental flight 179, a 737-300 en route from Houston
    Where: San Antonio International Airport
    When: Thursday
    Who: 90 passengers
    Why: The flight landed at 12:10 p.m., about 40 minutes after its scheduled arrival after its landing gear failed; the crew spent that time trying to get the landing gear operable, and managed a safe landing

    Piper Crash in Florida Parking Lot

    On March 15, 2013, a Piper PA-31-350 Navajo Chieftain took off from a small Fort Lauderdale airport, developed problems and struck a tree while returning to the airport. The plane impacted the ground in a parking lot for repossessed cars at 964 NW 53rd Court which was described as going up like a fireball.

    No one on the ground was injured but there were three fatalities aboard. Kevin Watson, in his 30s, and his father, Wallace, who owned Avionics Engineering were aboard.

    Locals are concerned about aviation safety and are interested in having city inspectors to check planes for safety like the FAA and NTSB.

    The fire at the lot was under control within thirty minutes.

    The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

    Plane Crashes North of San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.

    What: Cessna Centurion being used for aerial photography
    Where: crash/lands in the shallows north of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.
    When: 2 p.m. Wednesday.
    Who: Pilot Matt Barcelona of San Jose and passenger Bruce Moody.
    Why: The pilot reported a loss of power before it crashed. Witnesses reported the plane left a dark trail. After the impact. they managed to get the door open. They waited on the plane’s wing until rescued by Coast Guard vessels conducting training sessions within fifteen minutes of the vicinity; passengers were taken to Yerba Buena Island, then to the hospital.

    American Eagle Succumbs to Emergency Landing in Yampa.

    What: American Eagle Embraer ERJ-135 en route from Denver CO to Los Angeles
    Where: Hayden
    When: July 19 2011
    Who: 36 passengers and 3 crew
    Why: While en route, the crew detected an electrical odor. They reported the issue to ATC.

    The flight made a safe landing at Yampa Valley Airport. Maintenance is examining the plane.

    Passengers were provided bus transportation to Denver where they were provided alternative flights.
