26 June 1988 – Air France Flight 296 crashes into trees beyond the runway on a demo flight at Habsheim, France. 3 passengers killed.
14 February 1990 – Indian Airlines Flight 605, A320-231 with 146 passengers crashes on final approach to Bangalore Airport, killing 88 passengers and 4 crew.
20 January 1992 – Air Inter Flight 148, an A320-111 crashes into a ridge near Mount Sainte-Odile in the Vosges mountains on final approach to Strasbourg from Lyon. 87 fatalities (five crew members, 82 passengers).
14 September 1993 – Lufthansa Flight 2904, in Warsaw an A320-211 from Frankfurt am Main 70 people crashes into earth bunker at runway’s end. Fire in left wing penetrates the passenger cabin. Copilot and one passenger die.
22 March 1998, Philippine Airlines Flight 137, an A320-214 crashes and overruns Bacolod City Domestic Airport runway RPVB, in Bacolod. All passengers and crew survive; many ground injuries.
23 August 2000 – Gulf Air Flight 072, an A320-212 crash into the Persian Gulf on approach to Bahrain Airport. 143 passengers and crew fatalities.
3 May 2006 – Armavia Flight 967, an A320-211 crashes into the Black Sea while conducting a go-around following 1st approach to Sochi Airport, Russia. 113 passengers and crew fatalites attributed to pilot error.
9 July 2006 – Airbus A310 F-OGYP Sibir flight 778 departed Domodeovo. On landing, the airplane went off the runway at the high speed of ~180 km/h, hit the concrete fence and buildings, crashed and caught fire. 125 people died as a result of the accident. “On prior flight, was released with six defects as per minimum equipment list (MEL), including the deactivated state of the left engine thrust reverser. The previous two flights had been carried out with a deactivated right engine thrust reverser.
17 July 2007 – TAM Airlines Flight 3054 – PR-MBK, the A320-233 on the route, can’t stop while landing at Congonhas International Airport in São Paulo, Brazil. Under investigation. All 187 passengers and crew died and further ground fatalities.

Stall warning sounded 75 times after the pitot tubes froze over.
Could the crash have been averted if the stick had communicated to the more experienced co-pilot what the less experienced pilot was doing? We agree that if the stick had been designed to communicate that the angle was wrong, the error would have been caught before the situation became critical.
We happen to agree with journalist, Nick Ross, who said in the video below that “All commercial airliners are remarkably safe,” but that the design could be made safer.
Should the stick provide pilot feedback? We believe amending the Airbus design to provide feedback would make the airbus a safer vehicle. What is your opinion?

Azul Brazilian Airlines flight AD-6970 had to return and make an emergency landing at Recife/Guararapes–Gilberto Freyre International Airport, Brazil, on May 31st.
The Airbus A330-200, flying to Sao Paulo Viracopos, Brazil, had to return due to a strong smell of smoke on board.
The plane landed safely.
No one was injured.

American Airlines flight AA-1927 made an emergency landing at Raleigh–Durham International Airport, North Carolina, on July 16th.
The Airbus A319-100 plane was flying from Charlotte, North Carolina, when a foul odor in the cabin caused several passengers to suffer from nausea and headache.
The plane continued for a safe landing. The affected passengers received medical assistance at the airport.
The airline said the foul odor developed due to a mechanical issue.

What: Chopper II LLC Aérospatiale AS 350B Astar en route from from Sedona to Scottsdale. Where: Sedona AZ When: June 30, 2012 Who: 4 aboard, 4 fatalities Why: A Aérospatiale AS 350B Astar, N729DP that was reported overdue on Saturday was found by a private pilot at 8:45 a..m. Sunday crashed into the Verde river south of Camp Verde, Arizona. According to FAA reports, “THE 4 PERSONS ON BOARD WERE FATALLY INJURED.”
The wreckage was consistent with a pilot flying at low speed and low altitude.
The remains were found of the pilot, 70-year-old Raymond Perry of Phoenix, 68-year-old passenger Karen Stinn of Cave Creek and 63-year-old Mike Dunaway and 64-year-old Linda Dunaway of Glendale. They were taken to Yavapai County Medical Examiner’s Office. Perry is the CEO of the Arriba Mexican Grill restaurant chain.
A helicopter mechanic reported that it looked as if the chopper nose-dived and the blades from the chopper and the transmission tore through the main cabin where the pilot and passengers were sitting. Wind may have factored in. The helicopter was found in the Verde river.
