    United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Fargo

    United Airlines flight UA-4632 made an emergency landing in Fargo, North Dakota, on July 9th.

    The plane flying from Denver, Colorado, was on approach to Fargo when the crew reported smoke in the cockpit.

    The plane landed safely. All forty people aboard remained unharmed.

    What: Air Contractors Avion de Regional Transport ATR-72-200 en route from Paris to Hamburg
    Where: Hamburg
    When: Feb 8th 2012
    Why: The ATR was moving into a holding position short of runway 33 while an Aer Lingus Airbus was taking off from runway 33. Witnesses said that it appeared that the ATR was accelerating. Prompted by an urgent ATC warning, they stopped close to runway 33.

    After the Airbus took off, they reported back to ATC that they had seen the ATR.

    Thomas Cook Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Manchester

    Thomas Cook Airlines flight MT-2652 had to return and make an emergency landing in Manchester, England, on June 26th.

    According to the airline, the airbus A330-200 plane heading to Holguin, Cuba, had to turn back due to a low oil indication.

    The plane landed back safely, however, the tip of its left wing was missing.

    All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Aer Lingus Flight Diverts to Dublin After Bird Strike

    Aer Lingus flight EI-911 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Dublin, Ireland, on August 6th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane heading from Gatwick Airport, England, to Knock, Ireland, was diverted due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Man Fined for Aer Lingus Jet Lockdown due to Ebola Scare

    Aer LingusAer Lingus flight EI433, carrying 142 passengers, was put in lockdown on Dublin airport, Ireland, on October 29.

    The incident happened after an Italian passenger wrote ‘Attentione Ebola’ on a coffee cup and handed it over to a crew member.

    According to an airport spokesperson, “A passenger on board an Aer Lingus flight from Milan has made a claim during the flight that he had the Ebola virus…As a precaution the plane’s captain alerted authorities and opted not to deplane passengers pending further investigations.”

    The passengers were allowed to disembark after Roberto Binaschi, 56 was arrested, along with his wife, aged 51, and daughter,aged 23.

    The health officials confirmed that neither of them had Ebola virus.

    The female passengers were later released without any charge while Binaschi appeared in Dublin District Court and pleaded guilty to a charge of threatening and abusive behavior on board. He was spared conviction on condition that he will give €2,500 to charity.

    Ryanair Madrid-Rome; Frankfurt-Ciampino: Oil Leak and Bird Strike

    What: Ryanair Boeing 737-800 en route from Madrid to Rome
    Where: Madrid
    When: May 9 2011
    Why: The plane took off without incident, but an hour outside of Rome, the instrument panel indicated an engine leak. The pilots returned to Barajas where they made an uneventful landing with emergency services on standby.

    The flight was cancelled.

    What: Ryanair Frankfurt to Ciampino
    Where: Rome
    When: May 10, 2011
    Who: 166 passengers
    Why: On the next day, another Ryanair flight ingested two birds into an engine, overshot the runway on the emergency landing in Rome. Several injuries occurred during the emergency exit via slides.
