    When: Reported on Dec 1 2011
    Who: 214 passengers
    Why: While en route, engine problems forced an unnamed Transaero Boeing crew to divert to Rostov-on-Don reportedly due to undisclosed engine problems. However, date, plane and preliminary cause have not been verified. It apparently had the same number aboard as Kolavia Flight 348 (214) which burned on the runway before being able to take off for Moscow.

    JetBlue Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Fort Lauderdale

    JetBlue flight B6-1675 had to return and make an emergency landing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on March 15th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Kingston, Jamaica, but had to turn back after the crew noticed an issue with the brakes.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Swiss International Air Lines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Munich

    Swiss International Air Lines flight LX-188 made an emergency landing in Munich, Germany, on June 18th.

    The Airbus A340-300 plane heading from Zurich, Switzerland, to Shanghai, China, was diverted due to smoke in the cockpit.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Fourth Qantas Flight Makes Emergency Landing in 48 Hours

    QantasA Qantas flight had to return and make an emergency landing at Hobart Airport in Tasmania, Australia, on the evening of December 9.

    The Melbourne-bound Boeing 717 had to turn back, just 20 minutes after taking off, after a warning system indicated a technical issue with the aircraft.

    The plane landed safely and was taken for examination.

    The flight was able to depart again at 7:40 p.m.

    This is the 4th emergency landing of a Qantas jet within 48 hours. The airline insisted that the incidents were un-related. According to Qantas chief Alan Joyce, “We have really high reliability. We have low levels of turnbacks compared to most of the world fleets.”

    American Airlines Flight Diverts to Waterloo, IA

    American Airlines Flight 3047 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Waterloo, Iowa, on February 18.

    According to the airline, the plane, en-route from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Chicago, Illinois, had to be diverted after odor was reported in the cabin.

    The plane landed safely. There were 26 passengers aboard at the time; none of them were harmed.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    GoAir Flight Returns to Ahmedabad After Bird Strike

    GoAir flight G8-720 had to return and make an emergency landing in Ahmedabad, India, on February 7th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Delhi, India, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred and sixty-six people aboard remained unharmed.
