Reports of Crash Are Greatly Exaggerated

    What: Cessna
Where: La Bufadora, Baja California, Mexico
    When: July 17, 2012
    Who: 2 aboard
Why: Rumors that a search is being coordinated for a Cessna that disappeared into the sea are false. What: Air India Boeing 777 en route from Frankfurt to Chicago
    Where: Bucharest
    When: May 12, 2012 10:25
Who: 303 passengers and 17 crew
Why: The flight was en route over Romania when a door warning went off, alerting the pilot of a potential problem.

One source reported the problem as a door alarm; another source said there was a cargo smoke indication.

Passengers deplaned via stairs as on examination, no indication of fire or heat was found. Passengers were then provided hotel accommodations.

The pilot informed ATC in Bucharest and shortly later made a safe landing. The cargo door was examined but no problems were found. The issue was chalked up to being a false alarm.

The plane awaited takeoff pending an allocated scheduled landing-time in Chicago.

No Terrorist but Chautauqua Pilot Kidnapped by Lav Door

What: Chautauqua Embraer ERJ-145/Delta Airlines en route from Asheville,NC to New York
Where: La Guardia airport, New York
    When: Nov 16th 2011
Why: By now, everyone has probably heard about this:

A captain who was locked in the airplane’s bathroom gave a passenger a security code to inform the co-pilot.

But when the co-pilot heard the passenger’s heavy accent, he told ATC “the captain has disappeared in the back and I have someone with a big foreign accent trying to access the cockpit.” ATC urged him to land ASAP.

The situation was resolved before the plane landed, and fortunately before the fighter jets were deployed.

    Air India: False alarm?

What: Air India Airbus en route from Delhi to Jammu
    Where: Delhi
    When: August 3, 2011
    Who: 122 passengers
Why: After takeoff, the pilots noticed an emergency alert, and returned to Delhi where they made a safe landing. The plane was inspected, and the flight continued.

    In George’s Point of View

This alert may be an indication of bad reportage, or bad aviation safety practices; I don’t know which, but it is one or the other. When there is an alert, reputable airlines usually go over the plane with a fine toothed comb until the problem is located.

But according to reports, the alert was immediately determined to be false, and the plane went right back out to make the flight. Reputable airlines usually fly in a replacement plane to take over the flight so the plane with the problem is cleared.

So. Either this plane was sent out too soon, without a thorough inspection. Remember, Air India has an acknowledged safety problem. Are they playing Russian roulette with their passengers’ safety?

Or. The reportage does not make it clear that another plane was flown in.
