    The UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is investigating the incident in which seventeen passengers and two crew were on the way to the drilling rig when the crew had to ditch the helicopter (controlled ditching) in the North sea.

    This Special Bulletin contains information about the helicopter’s main gearbox (MGB) lubrication system and the results of an investigation into the indication of a failure of the emergency lubrication system, after it was activated by the crew. It follows publication of two earlier Special Bulletins on this accident, AAIB Special Bulletins S2/2012 and S3/2012.

    This was the first occasion that the EC225 LP MGB emergency lubrication system had been operated in-service. One Safety Recommendation is made.

    The investigation into the failure of the bevel gear vertical shaft in the MGB continues.

    Easyjet Flight Diverts to Bournemouth Airport due to Medical Emergency

    EasyjetEasyjet flight EZY6401 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Bournemouth Airport, England, on March 23.

    The flight was en-route from Newcastle to Barcelona when a passenger fell sick midair. The crew then reported the medical emergency and diverted the plane to Bournemouth Airport.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    An Easyjet spokesperson said, “The passenger was met by paramedics and the flight is now continuing to Barcelona… We apologise for any inconvenience experienced due to the diversion and resulting delay.”

    Ryanair Flight Returns to Warsaw Modlin Airport, Poland

    Ryanair flight FR-4060 had to return and make an emergency landing at Warsaw Modlin Airport, Poland, on February 7th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Malaga, Spain, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew suspected a tailstrike.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Edelweiss Air Plane Returns to Switzerland due to Hydraulic Failure

    Edelweiss AirEdelweiss Air flight WK-32 had to return and make an emergency landing at Zurich Airport, Zurich, Switzerland, on July 2nd.

    The Airbus A330-300, flying to Havana, Cuba, was mid-air when the crew reported hydraulic failure, prompting the plane to return.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    All people onboard remained unharmed.

    Norwegian Air International flight D8-6241 made an emergency landing in Birmingham, England, on June 16th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from Keflavik, Iceland, to Madrid, Spain, was diverted due to a hydraulic failure.
