Where: Buckskin Road between 19th and 20th Avenues in McPherson County, 40 miles north of Wichita.
When: 2:45 p.m. Sunday March 8, 2009
Who: Pilot Roger Hershner was the only one aboard.
Why: The helicopter crashed after being in route for 2 hours; the crash is under investigation.

Why: While en route over the ocean near Amsterdam, the cabin filled with smoke. The crew diverted to London where they made a safe landing. The source of the smoke was determined to be packaging in an oven. Although the smoke had dispersed, the West Sussex Fire and Rescue Emergency Services were on hand.The plane was routed to Manchester for a crew change before the flight could be resumed.

Air Cargo Crash in Kabul

Who: 7 crew (six Philipinos, an Indian, a Kenyan—all fatalities)
Why: While en route, the airplane disappeared from radar about 6nm northeast of the airfield. The flight impacted a mountain in the Pol-e Charkhi area .Rescue teams are en route to the high altitude location.
Small Plane Crashed in San Jacinto County; 1 Killed, 1 Injured
A 2-seater plane crashed near Lake Water Wheel Airport on FM 223 in San Jacinto County, Texas, at around 4:30 p.m. on September 27.
According to initial reports, the plane crashed into a tree while it was attempting to land at Lake Water Wheel Airport.
There were 2 people aboard the plane at the time of crash. One of them, identified as the pilot, Marcus Schmitt, 44, of Shepherd, was killed while the other person, identified as Rene Weatherford, 35, from Houston, sustained serious injuries. He is currently being treated at Memorial Hermann, Houston.
The spokesperson of the Texas Department of Public Safety, Stephanie Davis said, “It was a self-made plane, and I don’t know exactly where they were coming from.”
The cause of accident is under investigation.
UN Cessna Crashes in Bolivia, 6 Perish

Who: 6 aboard
Why: The Bolivian Air Force plane piloted by the air force and carrying four United Nations workers was doing a fly-by and did not return at 2:30 as scheduled. The plane, which had been missing since May 5 and a search going on in Yungas (Coroico, La Asunta and Caranavi). The flight was located near the Santa Elena River, where it appears that it hit a tree during an emergency landing.The passengers lost in the crash were Ivan Alfaro Santiago, Estephan Campos Ruiz, Mariela Romero Torreblanco and Patricia Delgado Rua, and the Cessna was being flown by Lt. Néstor Álvaro Ottich Arenas and Lt. José Javier Alegría Estrada.

Small Plane Crash in California Leaves Two Dead
A small plane crashed near Petaluma Municipal Airport in Sonoma County, California, on May 27th.
The plane carrying two people went down shortly after taking off from the airport.
Both occupants of the plane were killed in the crash.
The aircraft was registered to Richard Bristow of Carmichael, California. Bristow’s brother said Bristow and his wife were travelling in the plane when it crashed.
The cause of crash is being investigated.

Why: The plane made a series of turns and was westbound when it crashed in a grove of trees on a private residence near 92nd Avenue and Washington Road eight miles from Stillwater. Witnesses said the “plane didn’t sound right.”
