    British Airways Flight Returns to Gatwick Airport due to Hydraulic Failure

    British Airways flight BA-2552 had to return and make an emergency landing at Gatwick Airport, England, on July 30th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Heraklion, Greece, but had to turn back due to a hydraulic failure.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    What: Tame Embraer ERJ 190 en route from Loja to Quito Ecuador
    Where: Quito Ecuador
    When: Sep 16th 2011
    Who: 97 passengers, 6 crew
    Why: Landing in Quito in rain halfway down the runway, the jet hydroplaned past the end of the runway to the perimeter wall. Nine hundred feet past the end of the runway.

    There were four injured. The incident is under investigation. The nose section appears to be smashed. The airport does not have collapsing concrete runway arresting systems.

    KLM Plane Continues for Safe Landing in Bahrain after Lightning Strike

    KLMKLM flight KL-435 continued for a safe landing at Bahrain International Airport, Bahrain, on April 14th.

    The Airbus A330-200, flying from Doha, Qatar, was mid-air when it was struck by lightning, but the crew continued to Bahrain.

    The plane landed safely.

    All 124 people onboard remained unharmed.

    Eastern Airways Flight Makes Emergency Landing in France

    Eastern Airways flight T3-1763 made an emergency landing in Toulouse, France, on April 13th.

    The plane flying from Bristol, England, was on final approach to Toulouse when the crew received an unsafe gear indication and went around to work the checklists.

    The plane landed safely on second approach. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Tahlequah OK: Robinson Crash

    What: Robinson model R22 Beta helicopter en route from Tahlequah City Airport
    Where: south of Mud Valley Road in rural Cherokee County Oklahoma, two miles south of the Tahlequah airport.
    When: 4:30 a.m. Thursday
    Who: pilot Mark Mahaney, 26; Darci Scraper, 20.
    Why: The exact time of the crash is not known, but the pilot and passenger were scheduled to meet someone at the airport. The wreckage was found at 8:45 a.m. Friday. The helicopter is known to have taken off at 4 a.m. Wednesday, and flew southeast before striking the ground in a wooded area about a mile from the road.

    Mahaney received his pilot’s license on July 31. He had a two year old public intoxication charge, pending DUI charges in Cherokee, and is the grandson of former state Sen. Herb Rozell of Tahlequah.

    Engine Failure: Delta Diverts to Colorado Springs

    What: Delta Airlines Boeing 757-300 en route from Detroit to Phoenix
    Where: Colorado Springs
    When: Dec 30, 2010
    Who: 225 passengers
    Why: While en route from Detroit to Phoenix, the plane’s right engine developed engine problems. The pilot shut down the affected engine and diverted to Colorado Springs where they made a safe landing 3/4 of an hour later. On landing, however, one of the wheel-wells overheated when the landing gear caught fire.

    Passengers evacuated via emergency slides, which resulted in two injured passengers. The injured were hospitalized.

    The rest of the passengers were to be booked on alternative flights.
