Biplane crash Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome

What: Avro504K replica bi-plane
Where: Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, Stone Church Road and Norton Avenue in Red Hook, just north of the Rhinebeck line.
When: Saturday October 17 2009
Who: pilot William Gordan
Why: The engine stalled at an altitude of about 300 feet, crashed into a swamp on the aerodrome property, causing the top wings to collapse. Its lower wings sustained damage. By the time assistance arrived, the pilot had already climbed out of the plane.

    What: Beech Bonanza en route from Vereeniging to Margate
    Where: Harrismith South Africa
    When: Dec 28 2009
    Who: 4 passengers aboard, believed to be a family
    Why: The flight was en route to margate but diverted to Harrismith due to technical problems. ATC lost contact with the plane during bad weather.

    The plane crashed into a remote, inaccessible section of Platberg Mountain during heavy fog. The wreckage was located by another plane.

    All 4 aboard the flight were fatalities, and believed to be a family group.

    When the Sewage Hit the Fanblade

    What: Cessna 172 registered to an El Cajon flight school en route from Gillespie Field in El Cajon to Torrance.
    Where: Close to a hwy overpass a half-mile from the Oceanside runway Oceanside Municipal Airport east of Interstate 5 in San Diego County.
    When: January 24, 2009
    Who: 24-year-old pilot Amandeep Singh and an 18-year-old passenger Harshdeep Multani . Both have Indian passports.
    Why: The official word is that the plane developed mechanical trouble and was in the process of an emergency landing. On one account, the plane clipped a power line on approach to the runway and crashed. Another account says the plane struck a wooden utility pole. The plane also sheared off the valve to a sewage pipe, spewubg a geyser 25,000 gallons of raw sewage. The airport was closed. It took 45 minutes to extricate the pilot from the wreckage as sewage rained down on them. Decontamination at the scene was comprised of stripping down to their shorts and being hosed down on site.

    A salvage crew removed the wereckage to Pearblossom in Los Angeles County,

    Jetstar Airbus A330-200 Autopilot Fails

    What: Jetstar Airways Airbus A330-200 en route from Phuket (Thailand) to Sydney,NS
    Where: Changi Airport, Singapore
    When: Nov 1 2010
    Who: 288 passengers
    Why: While en route, the autopilot failed. The pilots diverted to Singapore where they made a safe landing with emergency services on standby.

    Alternative arrangements have been made for the affected passengers, who were booked onto other flights and offered accommodation in Singapore.

    Sun Express Vibration and Hydraulic Failure in Antalya

    What: Sunexpress Boeing 737-800 en route from Antalya Turkey to Aarhus Denmark
    Where: Antalya
    When: July 14 2011
    Who: 180 passengers
    Why: While en route, the plane developed vibration.

    The crew returned to Anatalya and made a safe landing. The issue was reported by official spokesmen as being a hydraulic problem (hydraulic pump failure), although a hydraulic problems would not cause vibration.

    Passengers were provided an alternative flight.

    Crop Duster Plane Crashes in Colorado; Pilot Killed

    A crop duster plane crashed in the San Luis Valley, near Alamosa, Colorado, on August 19th.

    The plane hit the fields of barley and afterwards it burst into flames.

    The pilot lost his life at the scene.

    The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
