Where: Changi Airport, Singapore

Who: 288 passengers
Why: While en route, the autopilot failed. The pilots diverted to Singapore where they made a safe landing with emergency services on standby.

Alternative arrangements have been made for the affected passengers, who were booked onto other flights and offered accommodation in Singapore.

SpiceJet Flight Returns to Delhi due to Cargo Smoke Indication

SpiceJet flight SG-2695 had to return for an emergency landing in Delhi, India, on December 4th.

The plane took off for Jodhpur, India, but had to turn back due to a cargo smoke indication.

The plane landed safely. All sixty people aboard remained unharmed.

Why: Just after takeoff, the pilot received an unsafe door warning. On returning to Montreal, maintenance repaired the door, and the plane returned to service.

What: CESSNA 337C registered to George Waller en route from a private airstrip to Stillwater for fuel.
Where: STILLWATER, OK
When: 03/27/2009
Who: George Waller, fatality at the scene
Why: The plane made a series of turns and was westbound when it crashed in a grove of trees on a private residence near 92nd Avenue and Washington Road eight miles from Stillwater. Witnesses said the “plane didn’t sound right.”

Delta Landing in Atlanta Minus One Engine

What: Delta Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-88 en route from Atlanta to Charlotte
Where: Atlanta
When: Nov 10th 2011
Why: Delta flight took off normally but once in the air, the engine seems to have caught fire (according to passengers who heard an explosion and saw sparks.) No fire was officially reported.

The right hand engine poured smoke into the cabin but no fire.

Pilots were able to gain altitude to turn minus one engine, and to make a safe landing in Atlanta. Passengers disembarked, and were provided pizza and alternative flights. At least one passenger would have preferred alcohol to pizza.

Austrian Airlines Fokker Smokes Take-off

What: Austrian Airlines Fokker 100 en route from Belgrade Serbia to Vienna Austria
Where: Belgrade
When: Jan 19th 2010
Who: 83 passengers and 5 crew
Why: After passengers had boarded but before they took off, the left hand engine began smoking. Passengers disembarked and the flight was cancelled. The flight was reported alternately as an aborted takeoff and engine fire, but in our opinion, the most credible report seems to be that the flight never actually attempted to get off the ground.

AA Flight 1225 Makes Emergency Landing at Abilene

American AirlinesThe American Airline MD-82 jet experienced a pressurization problem and made an emergency landing at Abilene Regional Airport, Texas, on April 15 at 4:15 pm.

The flight was bound for Dallas, Fort Worth International Airport but it landed just 160 miles short of its final destination. The Jet took off with 133 passengers and five crew members from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico early afternoon.

The Engineers were investigating the possible causes of low pressure.
