Why: Forty minutes into the flight, the pilot detected smoke in the cabin. An emergency was declared, and the plane returned to Toccumen airport for a safe landing. The cause of the smoke has not yet been determined.

What: Grozny Avia Yakovlev Yak-42 en route from Moscow to Grozny

Why: Several minutes after takeoff, an anonymous call from Belarus to the Vnukovo airport raised a bomb alert that forced the emergency landing of the flight in Volgograd.
Passengers disembarked and the plane has been isolated for examination.
A Kuwait Airways Airbus 300, en route to London from Kuwait, made an emergency landing at Brussels airport, Belgium, on July 28.
The pilot decided to make an emergency landing after discovering smoke in the cockpit, according to airport spokeswoman Florence Muls.
The plane landed safely and all 200 passengers aboard remained unhurt.
The aircraft was taken for examination.

The incident happened when the Boeing 737-700 plane flying from Munich, Germany, was on final approach.

American Airlines flight 2398 made an emergency landing in Memphis, Tennessee, on May 14th.
The plane, heading from Nashville, Tennessee, to Dallas, Texas, was diverted due to smell of smoke in the cabin.
The plane landed uneventfully. All 141 passengers and 5 crew members remained safe.
