Five lost in Brazil Beechcraft Crash

At 2:30 pm on Feb 3, 2013, a Beechcraft C90B King Air en route from Maringá to Congonhas was over Cândido Mota, São Paulo when it crashed in Água do Macuco, the Water Macuco, traditional producer of soybeans and cassava.. Residents heard a loud bang as the plane flew close to a neighborhood, circling, then fell into a soybean field. Three women and two men died, including the 58 year old pilot. Fuel outside the tank seemed to indicate to investigators that the pilot had dumped fuel. Just before the crash, the pilot had informed the tower of Curitiba (PR) that would make a forced landing at Assisi State Airport.The fatalities included Elizete Piveta and her daughter, Leticia Piveta Assumption, Leticia’s fiance José Eduardo Ermírio de Moraes, pilot Luis Henrique Marcondes, 58 and co-pilot, his wife Luciana Souza Aguiar da Costa.
Rescue teams from Assisi and Marília assisted at the scene.

US Airways Airbus Goes Down in the Hudson

Why: Pilot hit a flock of geese after taking off from LaGuardia. (Two bird hits) Four minutes after takeoff passengers report hearing an explosion from the left side of the plane.Heroic efforts were made, retrieving 150 from the freezing Hudson waters. (It was a 20-degree day.) Gov. David Paterson has called the rescue “miracle on the Hudson.”

Captain Sullenberger has over 40 years of flying experience.” He a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy (B.S.), Purdue University (M.S.) and the University of Northern Colorado (M.A.)., former US Air Force (USAF) fighter pilot, who has served as an instructor and Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) safety chairman, accident investigator and national technical committee member, and has participated in several USAF and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) accident investigations.Passengers are recorded saying the Captain walked the length of the aisle to verify everyone was safely out.

January 15, 2009NTSB SENDING GO TEAM TO NEW YORK CITY FOR HUDSON RIVER AIRLINER ACCIDENT
The National Transportation Safety Board is sending a Go Team to investigate today’s crash of a US Airways Airbus A-320 (N106US) into the Hudson River in New York City.
Senior Air Safety Investigator Robert Benzon has been designated as Investigator-in-Charge of the 20-member team. NTSB Member Kitty Higgins is accompanying the team and will serve as principal spokesperson for the on-scene investigation. Peter Knudson is the press officer for the investigative team.
The team will be arriving in New York this evening.

Three Survive Helicopter Ditched in AZ Lake

Why: Two men and one woman were aboard a helicopter on a sightseeing tour when it crashed in Theodore Roosevelt Lake in Gila County. The water where the helicopter crashed was 60 feet deep. Boaters pulled the passengers from the water.The two men and one woman were hospitalized in Phoenix. Julie Barba, 49, remains in the hospital, but Fred Cleeves, the 62-year-old pilot, and George Riedel, 64, were released from Scottsdale Healthcare Osborne Medical Center.
Gila County Sheriff’s Office Divers attached a buoy to the helicopter to mark its location before removal.

Why: While the flight was en route, the airline received a phone call that there was a bomb aboard. Over Canada, two Canadian CF-18 Hornet fighter jets escorted the flight to Vancouver where it landed safely and was taxied to a remote location.On examination, no bombs were found.
EgyptAir Flight #MS804 Located off Karpathos Island
Before the wreckage was located off Greece’s Karpathos Island, search and rescue services picked up the ELT signal around 8:25, four hours after dawn. Greece reported two red and white plastic objects floating in the sea, and two orange objects, apparently life vests. Civilian ships are heading into the area to assist. France is assisting the search, with ships and aircraft. Several bodies were found floating in the area, according to RT.
The EgyptAir A320 disappeared May 18 over the Mediterranean.
When planes cross from one country’s airspace into another, the Air Traffic Control transition at those points is called the ‘hand-off.’ The crew was engaging with Greek ATC but when they attempted to hand the aircraft off to Egypt ATC, the crew made no response.
EgyptAir released that the crew was comprised of the captain, first officer, five cabin crew and three sky marshals. The passengers included 30 Egyptians, 15 French, 2 Iraqis, 1 British, 1 Belgian, 1 Kuwaiti, 1 Saudi, 1 Sudanese, 1 Chadian, 1 Portugese, 1 Algerian and 1 Canadian. The 56 passengers included three children.
Journalists have been barred by Airport security from the area in the Cairo airport where family and friends of the passengers are waiting.
