    What: Cessna 340 en route from Veracruz to McAllen, Texas.
    Where: General Heriberto Jara Corona International Airport, Veracruz, Veracruz, Mexico.
    When: May 5, 2009
    Who: Pilot and 3 passengers
    Why: The Cessna crashed while returning to land after takeoff.

    The pilot requested to return to the airport shortly after takeoff and was cleared to land by the tower. The pilot and 2 passengers were fatally injured and 1 passenger sustained serious injuries.

    New Boeing 737-800 Needs Electrical Work

    What: Air Austral Boeing 737-800 from Saint Denis to Johannesburg
    Where: Saint Denis
    When: Feb 27th 2011
    Why: After take-off from Saint Denis, the plane developed an electrical problem and had to return to the airport. An alternative plane was flown in to make the replacement flight.

    Air Austral Boeing was delivered in December 2010.

    United Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Portland

    United AirlinesUnited Airlines flight UA-893 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Portland, Oregon, on June 19th.

    The Boeing 747-400, heading from Seoul, South Korea, to San Francisco, California, was diverted after the passengers reported smell of smoke in the aft cabin.

    The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.

    LGW Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Engine Problem

    Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter (LGW) Airlines flight AB-6479 had to make an emergency landing in Nuremberg, Germany, on January 11th.

    The plane was heading from Saarbrucken to Berlin, Germany, when the crew reported an engine issue and decided to divert.

    The crew had shut down the faulty engine before the plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Baby Arrives Via Air India


    What: Air India Boeing 777-300 en route from Delhi India to Toronto,ON Canada
    Where: Kazakhstan
    When: Oct 22nd 2011
    Who: 1 baby
    Why: While en route, 35-year-old Kulraj Kaur (Kuljeet), a pregnant passenger in her 32nd week was traveling with her husband when she went into labor. A pediatrician and an oncologist were on board to deliver the baby. The eight hour delivery occurred at 31,000 feet and was considered “normal”. The flight continued, and the baby was born while the flight was still in the air.

    According to aviation law, an infant born on a flight is granted citizen ship to the country where the plane is registered, regardless of the parents’ citizenship or location of the event.

    The pilot Captain Kapil Kohli told Canadian ATC that “We departed with 268 passengers, but will be landing with 269.”

    Most airlines allow women to fly up to 35th weeks, after which they require a note from their obstetrician.
