    Airbus makes Emergency Landing in Russia

    What: Airbus A340 en route from Paris to New Caledonia
    Where: Khabarovsk Russia
    When: 1:10 pm
    Who: 242 passengers, 14 crew
    Why: The pilots were well underway when they received an indication that one of its four engines was on fire.

    The pilots diverted to Khabarovsk. The airport responded with a 54 person emergency response team.

    The flight made a safe landing, with no injuries. Passengers evacuated without incident.

    Aer Lingus Plane Diverts to Cork Airport after Passenger’s Death Mid-Air

    Aer LingusAer Lingus flight EI 485 was forced to make an emergency landing at Cork Airport, Cork, Ireland, on the afternoon of October 18.

    The Airbus A320-200, en-route to Dublin, Ireland, from Lisbon, Portugal, had to be diverted in emergency after a 24-year-old passenger “ran amok” and later died mid-air.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    Among 168 passengers and 6 crew members aboard, 1 person sustained minor injuries while trying to help the man.

    Qantas Flight Diverts to Oman due to Medical Emergency

    QantasQantas Airways flight QF9 had to make an emergency landing in Oman, on April 8th.

    The Airbus A380 plane, heading from Melbourne, Australia, to London, United Kingdom, was diverted after a male passenger suffered a suspected heart attack.

    The plane landed safely. However, authorities said the passenger had died before the plane touched down.

    Pilot Killed after Cessna Plane Crashes at Penn Yan Airport

    A single- engine Cessna plane crashed at Penn Yan Airport in Yates County, New York on May 3.

    The plane was being flown by a student pilot, who was practicing “touch-and-go-landing” at the airport. Right after taking off, the plane suddenly swerved, hit the ground, spun around and collided with the fence.

    The pilot was killed at the spot. He was identified as Steven P. Seely, 55, of Stanley, New York.

    The NTSB and the FAA are investigating the cause of crash.

    Greenland Flight Cancels Due to Smoke, Chemical Fumes

    What: Air Greenland de Havilland Dash 7-100 en route from Ilulissat to Upernavik
    Where: Ilulissat
    When: Jan 11th 2012
    Who: 27 passengers and 3 crew
    Why: After takeoff from Ilulissat, smoke developed in the lavatory, cabin and cockpit and the fire detector went off The flight returned to Ilulissat where they made a safe landing.

    No smoke or fire was detected in the cabin, but on inspection, the high pressure bleed air on both left engines did not work.

    Additionally, unidentified chemical fumes evaporated in to the air conditioning system.

    Maintenance believes the problem has been corrected.

    UPS Cargo Jet Makes Emergency Landing in Little Rock

    UPSA United Parcel Service (UPS) plane had to make an emergency landing at Clinton National Airport in Little Rock, Arkansas, at around 4:40 a.m. on February 3.

    Emergency was declared aboard the UPS MD80 cargo plane after the pilot reported strong fumes in the cockpit.

    The plane landed uneventfully. None of the 2 people aboard was harmed.

    The flight’s departure or destination is not clear at the moment.
