    Two Hawker Siddeley Accidents in one week

    A Hawker Siddeley 748 en route from Juba International Airport to Rubkona crashed in the Sudan. The plane had a crew of four and crashed while on a humanitarian mission.

    The cargo was a total loss. Reports are that there were fatalities and survivors in the crash but details haven’t been released.

    On Feb 12, another Hawker Siddeley HS-125-700B operated by Sirius-Aero with two crew flew out from Sheremetyevo to Vnukova Airport on a ferry flight. The pilots realized that the right hand main landing gear was not operating and notified ATC. They made a safe landing on foam. In that flight, neither pilot sustained injury but one wing of the plane sustained some damage.

    AirBaltic Flight Makes Emergency Landing after Clear Air Turbulence Injures Three

    AirBalticAirBaltic flight BT-211 had to make an emergency landing at Berlin Tegel Airport, Germany on November 24.

    The Boeing 737-300, flying from Riga, Latvia, declared emergency after it encountered severe clear air turbulence that injured a flight attendant and two passengers.

    The plane landed uneventfully. Authorities said one passenger was taken to hospital with a fractured leg while the other passenger and crew member were treated at the airport.

    The flight was carrying 59 passengers and 5 crew members at the time.

    Austrian Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Shannon Airport

    Austrian Airlines Flight OS-65 made an emergency landing at Shannon Airport, Ireland, on January 14th.

    The plane heading from Vienna, Austria, to Chicago, Illinois, was diverted after a passenger suffered a medical emergency.

    The plane landed safely. The patient was taken to a hospital.

    Pegasus Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Zurich

    Pegasus Airlines flight PC-947 made an emergency landing in Zurich, Switzerland, on September 7th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Istanbul, Turkey, was on approach to Zurich when the crew reported issues with the flaps.

    The plane subsequently landed without flaps.

    All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Transavia Flight Returns to Amsterdam After Lightning Strike

    Transavia flight HV-5661 had to return and make an emergency landing in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on January 5th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Las Palmas, Spain, but had to turn back after a lightning strike.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All one hundred and sixty-seven people aboard remained safe.

    Southwest Airlines Jet Returns to Oakland International Airport

    southwest_airlines_logoSouthwest Airlines flight 2547 had to return and make an emergency landing at Oakland International Airport, California, on December 23.

    According to the airline, “After takeoff, the captain in command made the decision to return to Oakland to check a maintenance item on the aircraft.” It is believed that the plane, that was heading to Chicago at the time, experienced a landing gear issue.

    The plane circled over Oakland to burn off excess fuel before landing safely. All 139 passengers aboard remained unharmed.

    The plane was taken out of service.
