    Thai Lion Air Co-Pilot Passes out Mid Air, Dies

    Thai Lion AirThe Thai Lion Air flight SL8537 from Hat Yai to Bangkok, Thailand, had to return for emergency landing on August 20, after the co-pilot collapsed midair.

    The Dutch co-pilot Peter Esberte, 47 lost consciousness just 20 minutes after the Boeing 737-900 aircraft took off. The pilot then decided to return to Hat Yai airport where he made an emergency landing at 1:21 p.m.

    Esberte later died on the way to hospital from the airport. The cause of death is not yet known, however, the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (Aerothai) said Esberte died of a heart attack.

    Worawut Kongkositkul, in-charge of flight operations for the low cost airline, said that Esberte joined the airline last year at its launch and was completely healthy.

    All 152 passengers aboard the plane remained unharmed.

    Continental: Hydraulic Leak over Newark Cancels Japan Flight

    What: Continental Airlines Boeing 777-200 en route from Newark,NJ to Tokyo Japan
    Where: Newark
    When: May 9th 2010
    Who: 275 passengers and 16 crew
    Why: After take-off, exterior observers saw the gear out and observed a leak which was determined to be the hydraulics. The flight returned to Newark for a safe landing after spending about an hour in the air. They made a safe landing and were towed to the gate. Continental arranged for alternative transportation.

    Turbulence near Tokyo

    What: American Airlines Boeing 777-200 en route from Dallas to Tokyo
    Where: 43 miles southeast of Narita over the Pacific
    When: Monday Oct 26 3:40 p.m.
    Who: 228 people aboard
    Why: As heavy weather ( Typhoon Lupit’s rain and strong winds) approach Japan’s east coast, the Japanese weather service announced a weather warning.

    Several (5 passengers) aboard the Tokyo jet were injured by turbulence. After landing, all 5 were taken to a Tokyo area hospital.

    American Airlines Plane Returns to Texas due to Cargo Door Indication

    American Airlines flight AA-229 had to return and make an emergency landing at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Texas, on December 28th.

    The Boeing 777-200 en-route to Kona International Airport, Kalaoa, Hawaii, had to return after a forward cargo door indication was reported.

    The plane landed safely.

    All 222 people aboard remained safe.

    Fuji Dream Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Japan

    Fuji Dream Airlines flight JH-341 had to return and make an emergency landing in Nagoya, Japan, on August 6th.

    The Embraer ERJ-170 plane took off for Kochi, Japan, but had to turn back after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

    The plane landed safely. There were sixty-seven people aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

    Emergency Landing in Darfur

    What: Tarco Airlines Antonov AN-24 en route from Nyala to Zalingei
    Where: Zalingei City, Darfur, Suden
    When: Nov 11th 2010
    Who: 44 passengers and 6 crew
    Why: A plane on a peacekeeping mission landed, apparently with an explosion on the side of the plane; two tires burst and caught fire. The fire resulted in from 6 to 15 fatalities, 6 injured. Rported numbers on casualties vary greatly. It is also reported that only 11 survived and that only 6 were killed. CNN did not mention a peacekeeping mission, but said the passengers were returning for a holy day with their families at the end of Ramadan.

    So in conclusion-we can just say that something happened, but we’re not exactly sure what, at least not until official reports come out.
