    DHL Jet with Flammable Cargo Makes Emergency Landing in Cayman Islands

    DHLA DHL cargo plane made an emergency landing at the Owen Roberts International Airport in Cayman Islands, at around 10:35 a.m. on February 18.

    Authorities said the Boeing 757 plane was transporting flammable liquids from Miami to Costa Rica when one of its engines malfunctioned. The crew then shut down the faulty engine and diverted the plane for an emergency landing in Cayman Islands.

    Roads near the airport were closed and firefighters were ready at the scene when the plane safely touched the runway. All 3 crew members aboard remained unharmed.

    Lufthansa Flight Suffers Engine Failure at Munich Airport

    Lufthansa flight LH-2457 suffered an engine failure after landing at Munich Airport, Germany, on March 27th.

    The incident happened when the Airbus A319-100 plane, coming from Oslo, Norway, was in the roll out.

    The plane stopped on the taxiway as the emergency services attended.

    Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Unruly Passenger Hauled off by Mounties and Fined $28,000 Canadian

    What: Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747-400 en route from Orlando,FL (USA) to Manchester
    Where: Gander
    When: Oct 21 2010
    Who: 451 passengers and 17 crew
    Why: While underway, a drunken passenger got into a brawl with his wife and father in law. The pilot diverted to Gander where the disruptive passenger, UK citizen Roy Anthony Heaps, was escorted out of the airport by Mounties.

    The court ordered Heaps to pay a fine of $15,000 for charges of assault, uttering threats, mischief and interfering with an air crew; and restitution to the airline along the lines of 13,000 Canadian Dollars.

    Engine Shut Down on Chicago-Boston flight, Diversion to Albany

    What: American Airlines Boeing 737-800 en route from Chicago to Boston
    Where: Albany
    When: Jan 9th 2012, 3 pm
    Who: 124 passengers and 6 crew
    Why: While en route, the left engine lost oil pressure.

    Pilots shut down the engine and diverted to Albany. They circled, and dumped fuel before making a safe landing. Emergency services were on standby.

    Until 2008, the Albany Airport was a regular stop for American Airlines, and hopes soon to be a regular stop again.

    A replacement jet was provided. Some passengers rented cars rather than wait.

    Air Canada Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Ottawa

    Air CanadaAir Canada flight AC8953 operated by Jazz Aviation made an emergency landing at Macdonald-Cartier International Airport in Ottawa, Canada, at around 6:30 a.m. ET on August 13.

    Pilots made an emergency landing after smoke was discovered in the cabin of the plane which was heading from Fredericton, New Brunswick to Toronto.

    The flight with 69 passengers and 4 crew members on board landed safely according to Ottawa Airport Authority.

    Air Canada spokesperson Debra Williams said, “Passengers were moved by ground transportation into the terminal and were booked on alternate flights to their destination. We apologize to our passengers for this incident and inconvenience.”

    Air Canada engineers will inspect the plane to determine the cause of the smoke.

    MD-82 Emergency Landing in Tehran

    What: Mahan Air McDonnell-Douglas MD-82 en route from Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport to Bandar Mahshah
    Where: Tehran
    When: 16:30
    Who: 184 deaths and 30 injuries.
    Why: After takeoff, the plane indicated a fire alert, and returned to the airport for a safe landing. The public announcement called this a “technical” error. Reportedly, maintenance found no actual fire.
