    UTAir Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Moscow

    UTairUTAir flight UT-559 had to make an emergency landing in Moscow, Russia, on August 6th.

    The plane took off for Makhachkala, Russia, but had to turn back after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

    Eurowings Flight Diverts to Prague due to Cargo Smoke Indication

    Eurowings flight EW-5805 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Prague, Czech Republic, on April 20th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane heading from Hanover, Germany, to Vienna, Austria, was diverted due to a cargo smoke indication.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    First Officer Passes Out Midair; EL AL Flight 289 makes Emergency Landing in Croatia

    EL ALEL AL flight 289, en route from Tel Aviv to Venice, had to make an emergency landing in Dubrovnik, Croatia, after its first officer fell ill mid air.

    The plane departed from Tel Aviv at around 6 a.m. on May 15. After about 2 hours, the first officer went to use the bathroom and upon returning, told the captain that he was not feeling well. The captain informed the first flight attendant, and was searching for the nearby airports to make an emergency landing, when the first officer passed out. A doctor who was on board among the passengers gave him medical treatment during the flight.

    The captain successfully made a safe emergency landing in Dubrovnik, where the first officer was taken to a hospital.

    The airline later issued a statement confirming the incident.

    “El Al flight 289 from Tel Aviv to Venice, with 98 passengers on board, landed in Dubrovnik after the first officer fell ill during the flight and was unable to fulfil his duties,” maintained the airline.

    Envoy Air Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Philadelphia

    Envoy Air flight AA-4680 had to return and make an emergency landing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on January 14th.

    The Embraer ERJ-145 plane took off for Ottawa, Canada, but had to turn back after the crew received indication of an engine problem.

    The plane landed safely. All fifty people aboard remained unharmed.

    Air India Express Flight Returns to Mumbai due to Hydraulic Failure

    Air India Express flight IX-247 had to return and make an emergency landing in Mumbai, India, on January 6th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Dubai, United Arab Emirates, but had to turn back due to a hydraulic failure.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred and seventy-seven passengers and six crew members remained unharmed.

    What: Northwest Airlines Boeing 747-400 Manila (Philippines) to Tokyo Narita (Japan)
    Where: NARITA, JP
    When: 02/20/2009
    Who: 408 passengers and 14 crew
    Why: 30 minutes prior to landing with seatbelt signs turned on, the airplane encountered severe turbulence. The plane dropped abruptly from 15000 feet. Some passengers not yet buckled in were thrown out of their seats and struck the ceiling resulting in a couple of injuries. 43 passengers were distressed enough to go to the hospital. Only one passenger sustained a neck fracture; two injuries were minor.
