    Qantas Flight Diverts to Jakarta due to Low Visibility

    QantasQantas QF51 made an emergency landing at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Jakarta, Indonesia, on September 29.

    The plane, heading from Brisbane, Australia, to Singapore, was diverted after the pilot reported low visibility due to haze. General manager of Jakarta’s Air Traffic Service Centre, Bambang Rianto, said the pilot reported that visibility was below the safety threshold limit of 1400 meters.

    The plane landed safely.

    No one was hurt.

    CommutAir Flight Returns to Greater Rochester International Airport

    CommutAirCommutAir Flight 3585 had to return and make an emergency landing at Greater Rochester International Airport, New York, on December 25.

    The plane took off for Washington Dulles International Airport, Virginia, but had to return shortly afterwards due to an engine-related issue.

    The plane landed safely. No injuries were reported.

    The FAA is investigating.

    What: Beechcraft C90 King Air en route from Bremen to Egelsbach
    Where: East of Egelsbach Germany
    When: Dec 7, 2009
    Who: 3 fatalities
    Why: The plane took off from Bremin at 15.15 Bremin time. There were no indications of problems to ATC there although the pilot logged off at 16.13 to make contact with the ATC in Egelsbach. On approach to Egelsbach air field at 16.15, the flight crashed and burned in a wooded area about five kilometers east of the airfield.

    The three passengers were businessmen.

    Egelsbach is the largest private German airport used by business travelers and sports pilots.

    Airbus Lands safely at Kashgar airport


    What: Qatar Airways QR821 Airbus A330-200 en route from Osaka to Doha
    Where: Emergency landing at Kashgar airport in China’s Xinjiang region
    When: 6:35 am Thursday
    Who: 174 passengers and 20 crew
    Why: The airbus plunged 9,000 meters in five minutes, experiencing a loss in cabin pressure but landed safely. All the passengers and their luggage left Kashi at around 9 p.m. Thursday on another Qatar Airways flight. The mechanical failure was repaired and the Airbus left the airport on Friday

    Alrosa Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Russia

    Alrosa Airlines flight 6R-9961 had to return and make an emergency landing in Mirny, Russia, on January 5th.

    The plane took off for Novosibirsk, Russia, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

    The plane landed safely. All 144 passengers and 8 crew members remained unharmed.

    Azul Brazilian Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Brazil

    AzulAzul Brazilian Airlines flight AD-2446 made an emergency landing in Fortaleza, Brazil, on December 2nd.

    According to the airline, the Embraer ERJ-195 plane heading from Sao Luis, to Recife, Brazil, was diverted due to technical issues.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
