    Update on South Sudan Crash that Killed 40 on the Banks of the White Nile.

    On Wednesday November 4, an Antonov 12 cargo plane leased from Asia Airways (registered EY-406) impacting terrain in the South Sudan. The flight was en route from Juba Airport, South Sudan to Paloich Airport, South Sudan. Three people survived the crash. There were forty fatalities, many of which were on the ground. However, this was a cargo flight, not supposed to have passengers, and the number of passengers may have been more than reported according to officials. The recorded number of those aboard, five crew, and seven passengers, has not been verified.

    The accident occurred just after the cargo flight had taken off from runway 13 at Juba Airport. It impacted near the White Nile river. The site has been secured, and the bodies are being recovered. Plans are underway to recover the black boxes.

    The crew was made up of five Armenians and one Russian. Six passengers were South Sudanese. There may have been one additional foreign passenger, but that information is unclear.

    Cessna Lands in NC

    Where: Cape Fear Regional Jetport, Brunswick County
    When: Jan 3, 2010
    Who: Pilot
    Why: The pilot could not land as his landing gear did not deploy and keyed an Unsafe Gear indication. The pilot manually deployed the gear, and landed without any more issues.

    He landed with Oak Island Fire and Rescue, Oak Island Police, Yaupon Beach Fire Department, and Brunswick County Emergency Services on standby.

    Colorado Mountain Crash, 2 lost in Mountain Snow, 2 Recovered

    What: Private Socata TB21 Trinidad TC en route from Durango to Aspen

    Why: Forty minutes after leaving Durango for a Christmas party in Snowmass Village., the plane crashed into mountains near Silverton Colorado. Hampered by inclement weather, searchers had to deal with nearly a foot of snow between Saturday and Sunday in the mountains at 11,000 above sea level.

    The bodies of Jenna Rich and Tyler Black were found and recovered, and are headed for autopsy.

    The search continues for two more bodies. The four adult passengers have all been reported as deceased. Three of those aboard were employees of Alpine Bank, and the fourth aboard was a spouse.

    The debris field of the crash covers more than a mile.

    British Airways Flight Diverts to Vancouver due to Medical Emergency; 25 Taken to Hospital

    British airwaysBritish Airways flight BA-286 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Vancouver, Canada, on October 24th.

    The Airbus A380-800 plane heading from San Francisco, California, to London, United Kingdom, was diverted due to a medical emergency.

    Authorities said the crew declared an emergency after several passengers and crew members reported feeling sick due to fumes on board.

    The plane, carrying 433 people aboard, landed safely. Twenty-five people, including 5 passengers and 20 crew members, were taken to hospitals.

    7 Injured after KLM Flight Runs into Severe Turbulence Over Mediterranean Sea

    KLMKLM flight KL-588 experienced severe turbulence above the Mediterranean Sea, on October 14th.

    The Airbus A330-200 plane was heading from Lagos, Nigeria, to Amsterdam, Netherlands, when it ran into severe turbulence over the Mediterranean Sea.

    The plane continued for a safe landing in Amsterdam.

    The airline said 7 people, including 5 passengers and 2 crew members, sustained minor injuries due to turbulence.

    New South Wales Crash on Christmas Day


    What: single-engine Cessna en route from Mudgee to rural NSW
    Where: west of Merriwa in the Great Dividing Range, New South Wales
    When: Dec 25
    Who: pilot Scott Kennedy-Green and brother-in-law, Matthew Green. Green died at the scene. The pilot survived and was winched to safety at 1 pm, with chest and pelvic injuries, and leg fractures. He is recuperating at Sydney’s Westmead Hospital.
    Why: The pilot lost control in heavy cloudcover and rain, and crashed in a ravine in the upper Hunter Valley

    The piliot set crash site co-ordinates by CB radio but had to spend the night out in the elements as conditions prevented his recovery until 1 pm the next day.

    The wreck was located at 10 in the morning Dec 26th, lying upside down with a wing torn off
