    Chopper Crashes in Trichiana Field

    What: Smart Elicotteri Srl Aérospatiale AS 350 BA Ecureuil
    Where: Trichiana Italy
    When: Nov 20, 2012
    Who: 2 aboard, 2 fatalities
    Why: A helicopter distributing anti rabies bait for wild animal vaccination took off and struck an electrical line before it fell into a field.

    The victims worked for Smart Helicopters Srl of Italy.

    A dog aboard the chopper was also killed.

    NTSB Preliminary Report on Nov 30 Homosassa Crash


    What: small BEECH 35-B33, registration: N945T registered to the Eagle Squadron Inc en route from Tallahassee to Vandenberg Airport
    Where: lost from radar over the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf off Homosassa
    When: Nov. 30
    Who: pilot Darien Peckham and passenger Zachary Schlitt both fatalities
    Why: Instrument meteorological conditions prevailed.The last radar hit was latitude 28.47:00 North and longitude 082.54:00 west. The airplane was on a heading of 143 degrees and mode c altitude was 5,000 feet mean sea level (msl). The United States Coast Guard located debris matching the description of the airplanes colors and personal effects from the persons onboard, several miles off shore from Homosassa Bay, FL, on the morning of December 1, 2008.

    Satellite weather imagery depicted a line of clouds along the front and over the last radar hit, consisting of nimbostratus to embedded cumulonimbus clouds with level 3 to 4 “heavy” intensity echoes. Sounding data has winds from the west at 50 knots at 5,000 feet, with a temperature of 10 degrees Celsius. There were in-flight weather advisories issued, including an AIRMET for occasional moderate turbulence below 12,000 feet over the region.

    The pilot, age 35, held a private pilot certificate with ratings for airplane single engine land, multiengine airplane, and instrument airplane. He was issued a first-class medical certificate on May 31, 2007, with no limitation. He had documented 950 total hours at that time.

    The passenger, age 28, held a private pilot certificate with a rating for airplane single engine land. He was issued a third-class medical certificate on Oct 23, 2006, with no limitation. He had documented 130 total hours at that time.

    Hampshire Crash kills two

    What: Small single engine aircraft
    Where: Monxton, near Andover in Hampshire UK close to the junction of the A303 and A342.
    When: April 17 2010
    Who: 2 aboard
    Why: In a field near Red Post Lane, a small plane crashed in a field and burst into flames, killing both occupants. The Weyhill Andover crash is said NOT to have been caused by ash but by some other reason.

    The AAIB has sent investigators to the scene. The type of craft and the victims names have not been released.

    Businessman in Fatal Oklahoma Crash

    What: Cessna 310R en route from Sundance Airpark to Alva
    Where: Alva Regional Airport, Oklahoma
    When: Dec 13, 2009. 12:00 a.m.
    Who: pilot Darin Dean Moser
    Why: Returning from a business trip to Oklahoma City, the pilot made a pass over the airport and aborted his initial attempted landing. The family, who was waiting at the airport, heard the vehicle crash.

    There were foggy flight conditions at the time.

    Bird strike Leads to Emergency Landing at Lagos Airport

    On March 28, 2013, a Royal Air Maroc Boeing 737-800 en route from Lagos to Casablanca spent ten minutes in the air after a bird strike on takeoff.

    126 were aboard when ten minutes into the flight, there was a bird strike that disabled an engine. The plane circled for about forty minutes to burn off fuel before attempting a return.

    Grumman American AA-5 Traveler Totaled

    What: Steven Leigh Emerson’s Grumman American AA-5 Traveler
    Where: Yacolt, WAshington
    When: July 5, 2011, 10:40 a.m
    Who: Emerson Steven Leigh (owner) and passenger
    Why: Emerson Steven Leigh was flying his Grumman American AA-5 Traveler when it was totaled when it crashed in Washington. Leigh and his passenger were treated on the scene. The plane had clipped trees, before it crashed into the gravel pit. Fire District 3, North Country Emergency Medical Service, East County Fire and Rescue, Camas Fire Department and Clark County Sheriff’s Office responded. The two were extricated and taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.

    Neither man had serious injuries but the plane was totaled.
