What: 1955 Piper PA-22 single-engine plane en route to to Grants Pass Where: Canyon Mountain on the hillside behind Forest Glen Senior Residence in southern Oregon When: 9:30 a.m. Sunday Who: Ernie Knigge, Elaina Knigge Why: The plane crashed in a steep, rugged area in a stand of old-growth trees. The cause of the crash has not been determined. The couple co-owned the 1955 plane.

What: Sita Air Dornier 228-202 en route from Kathmandu-Tribhuvan Airport to Lukla Where: 500 Meters from airport When: Sept 28, 2012 Who: 19 fatalities Why: After takeoff, the pilot hit a vulture. The pilot attempted to return to the airport. (The vulture strike is unconfirmed.)
Villagers could not assist because of the fire. Firefighters had difficulty reaching the area on the banks of Manohara River in Thimi, just a few kilometers east of Kathmandu.
Four passenger and three crew were from Nepal. Five were Chinese, and seven were British. the remains were taken to the morgue at TU Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj in Maharajgunj.
The crew who died in the crash were pilot Bijay Tandukar, co-pilot Takesingh Thapa and air-hostess Ruja Shakya.
The passengers were identified were Kumar Marshyangdi Magar (Nepal Army), D Rai, Yangchay Tamang and LN Sherpa. One Britain was identified as Eagle Raymond.
What: N79PD helicopter en route from Midway Airport. Where: Emergency landing in Chicago’s Garfield Park ( touched down in Smith Park, near North Rockwell Street and West Grand Avenue.) When: Tuesday Who: 3 passengers on board. No injuries. Why: The helicopter made slow decent because of a cautionary light.

What: Armada de México Fuerza Aeronaval Zlín 242L Where: La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico When: Dec 5, 2012 Who: 2 aboard, 2 fatalities Why: The flight departed from the Naval aviation school in La Paz; it was a training flight. The two Mexican aviators aboard, Mexican Navy flight instructor Lieutenant Commander Adrian Ignacio Gonzalez Vargas, and Mexican Air Force flight instructor Major Alfonso Barajas Jesus Verduzco, died in the crash.

Cessna Floatplane Pictured What: SeaRay seaplane Where: St. Johns Lake near the Deer Isle subdivision in Winter Garden in West Orange County Florida When: Saturday afternoon Who: Pilot sustained no significant injuries Why: Currently under investigation by the FAA
After crashing, the plane was submerged with the pilot’s head just above water. Witnesses attempted to free him, but he remained trapped until extricated by Orange County rescue.

What: O’Neal Aviation LLC Beechcraft E90 King Air en route from Amarillo to Fort Worth Where: Armstrong County Texas When: Dec 14, 2012 Who: pilot Why: The pilot was en route and ten minutes into the flight when he lost control.Witnesses saw the plane go down south of Farm-to-Market Road 1258 in Armstrong County.
The pilot was killed. The plane disappeared from radar at 6 pm. The debris field was located on Dec 14.
