On August 23, 2013, a Rossiya Airlines Antonov An-148-100 was damaged on take off.
In St. Petersburg, the pilots safely landed the plane after circling for forty minutes. 75 passengers and four crew were aboard.
After the pilots took off from Mineral Waters, plane debris was found on the runway.The difficultly landing was due to a flat tire on one of the six wheels.n A nose gear tire.
Emergency services responded.
A light engine plane crashed in the Russian Urals, killing both on board.
According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, the two-seater RokoAero NG4 crashed at Pirogovo settlement, at about 1pm Moscow time on March 30.
The plane was owned by Izhevsk Flying Club. The company’s website reports that the pilot requested permission for landing. However, as he took a 180 degree turn, the plane crashed.
The victims have been identified as 35 year old instructor, Alex Surnin and a 39 year old student.
Emergency specialists are investigating the cause of accident.
About last tuesday’s Fatal Rusline/RusAir Tupolov crash in Russia, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Sergei Ivanov, mentions that familiar phrase “obvious pilot error” while simultaneously promising he is not pre-emping the findings of the actual investigation. Officials have made spontaneous statements in the past, and lived to regret it, so that point remains to be seen.
The question of pilot error is questionable. The plane was flying in at too low an angle, (I may have read somewhere that the angle was what was directed by ATC but my source could be mistaken.)
Flying too low, the landing gear caught on electrical wires which caused an area blackout that included the local town and the airport runway lights. Is being unable to land on a runway without lights something that could be called pilot error? I suppose that remains to be seen, also.
So the cause is up for grabs: bad weather, technical malfunction or human error. What’s left? We do not know yet. We rely on the investigation to reveal the facts.
Irrespective of what caused this horrible tragedy, the decedents were fault-free. Rusline and RusAir are responsible for compensating the families who had entrusted the safekeeping of their loved ones into their care.
There is no amount of money that will bring back the loved ones, but compensation is due.
For 44 individuals, it was fatal; for 8, it was nearly fatal. I hate to sound too judgmental here, but a government official should probably not make sweeping generalizations about the causes of a tragic event without making it clear what is personal opinion and what is an official statement. Every supposition before the official report is released is guess work. All the conjecturing that will take place between now and when an investigation report is released is just that–conjecture. Some of it will be based on emotional responses; some of it will be based on varying perception of what may or may not be facts. For now, we can offer condolences to the families.
All we know for certain is that the crash that should not have happen, did, and people’s lives were cut short because of it.
What: Mi-8 helicopter
Where: Billings, Chukotka region Russia
When: July 25 2011
Who: 5 passengers, 3 fatalities
Why: On a standard operational flight on the Chukotka border, the Mi-8 helicopter developed engine problems and then one engine shut down. The pilot lost control of the helicopter and it crashed in Kamchatka, and caught on fire on impact.
Doctors and paramedics were flown in to the site.
One crew member and two passengers died on the scene. There were two survivors, the crew commander and the co-pilot.
THe chopper is reported by news agencies as belonging to a local airline.
Southwest Airlines flight WN-2803 had to return and make an emergency landing in Columbus, Ohio, on August 26th.
The Boeing 737-700 plane took off for Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a damaged tire.
The plane landed safely. All one hundred and twenty-seven people aboard remained unharmed.

Who: 12 fatalities (14 aboard)
Why: Witnesses described an an explosion in the air a few seconds after takeoff. The plane crashed at the end of the runway. Three seriously injured jumped off, and were hospitalized, but only two have survived.
The plane was normally used for parachutists’ training.
Eight ambulances and mobile emergency intervention teams were on the scene. Two victims suffered multiple trauma There were 12 fatalities of the 14 aboard.
Bâlsanu Captain Daniel was diagnosed with minor bruises and injuries, and military master Marius Nazare was diagnosed with contusions, trauma and burns on 10 percent of his body.
A Hawker Siddeley 748 en route from Juba International Airport to Rubkona crashed in the Sudan. The plane had a crew of four and crashed while on a humanitarian mission.
The cargo was a total loss. Reports are that there were fatalities and survivors in the crash but details haven’t been released.
On Feb 12, another Hawker Siddeley HS-125-700B operated by Sirius-Aero with two crew flew out from Sheremetyevo to Vnukova Airport on a ferry flight. The pilots realized that the right hand main landing gear was not operating and notified ATC. They made a safe landing on foam. In that flight, neither pilot sustained injury but one wing of the plane sustained some damage.
