    Small Plane Crashes in Kalkaska County, Michigan; Two Dead

    A small plane crashed in Kalkaska County, Michigan, on April 27th.

    The plane was carrying two people when it went down near US-131 and Vroom Road.

    Both occupants of the plane were killed in the crash. They were identified as Thomas Wolfe, 71, and Mary Wolfe, 70.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.

    Two Ryanair Planes Collided at London Stansted Airport

    RyanairTwo Ryanair Boeing 737-800 planes collided in the parking area of the London Stansted Airport, Essex, at around 6:50 a.m. on June 28. One of the planes was about to take off for Warsaw, Poland, while the other had just landed from Frankfurt Hahn, Germany.

    The tail cone of one plane and the wing tip of the other was damaged in the collision. A spokesperson of the Stansted Airport said, “We can confirm two aircraft were involved in a minor collision while on the ground at Stansted this morning. Both planes suffered some damage but there were no reported injuries to passengers or crew.”

    The passengers of the out-going flight had to face a three-hour delay before they were transferred to another plane.

    Robin Kiely, the spokesperson of Ryanair, said, “Our Stansted-based engineering team are currently investigating and will repair both aircraft and return them to service as soon as possible… Ryanair sincerely apologises to the affected passengers for any inconvenience.”

    Essex Police responded on the scene. They conducted routine breath tests on both of the pilots. There were no signs of alcohol. No further police action will be taken.

  • Kenya Airways A Year Later

    A year after Kenya Airways Douala, Cameroon crash, Kenya Airways is again being forced to defend its air safety record. On that flight, all passengers on board died. Kenya Airways other major crash was January in 2000 a plane with 169 passengers crash-landed into the sea on take-off.

    Kenya Airways has had 135 incidents between January and March of this year. Incidents include “passengers falling sick on the plane, a tear on the carpet or even a bird flying into the plane.”

    The Airline’s IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) was renewed in October 2007 and is valid for a period of two years. Out of 193 African carriers, 20 are certified.

    The probe of the Douala, Cameroon crash is ongoing.

    Piper Crash and Rescue in Tenerife

    What: Piper PA-28 owned by Los Rodeos Aerotec flying club en route from Tenerife airport.
    Where: Crash in the area of La Esperanza in the town of La Laguna in Tenerife ( Mountain of Joco in the municipality of La Orotava Tenerife)
    When: 1352 hours (time when control tower lost contact with the plane.
    Who: Emergency Intervention Group (GIES) identified the2 wounded men and a woman, all injured,who were taken to hospitals.

    Why: Los Rodeos control tower reported the crash. One man and a woman were rescued by helicopters from the Emergency Intervention Group. One was rescued by Air Rescue (SAR). A man who suffered leg contusions and the woman who suffered pneumothorax and a serious rib injury and were taken to University Hospital Canaria. The pilot suffered multiple serious undisclosed injuries and was transferred to the University Hospital of Our Lady of La Candelaria. Rescue efforts were hampered by fog.

    FAA Air Traffic Controller Could Not Provide

    FAA air traffic controllers provided the pilot outdated flight visibility information that made navigation difficult for Steven Bunker. Bunker had requested an “airport surveillance radar approach”, a ground-based radar approach. After the FAA air traffic controller told him she could not provide “airport surveillance radar approach” service, the four people in Bunker’s helicopter died.

    On Sept. 27, 2008, the medevac helicopter that crashed in a wooded area of Walker Mill Regional Park: Kenneth Mallard, State police pilot Stephen J. Bunker, Trooper 1st Class Mickey C. Lippy and Ashley J. Younger.

    Jordan Wells who was also aboard, survived.

    Kenneth Mallard was an EMT for the Waldorf Volunteer Rescue Squad. Michael Loyola Rowan, his wife Tanya Mallard’s lawyer, is filing a $7 million federal lawsuit against the FAA for ” not doing everything necessary to ensure a safe landing for the Maryland State Police Trooper 2 helicopter.” Christina P. Lippy has sued for $15 million.

    Pegas Fly Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Russia

    Pegas Fly Airlines flight IK-2561 had to divert for an emergency landing in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, on January 18th.

    The Boeing 767-300 plane heading from Perm, Russia, to Nha Trang, Vietnam, was diverted after all the toilets became inoperative.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
