    PIA Flight Suffers Bird Strike Near Lahore Airport

    Pakistan International Airlines flight PK-710 suffered a bird strike near Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, Pakistan, on June 2nd.

    The incident happened when the Boeing 777-200 plane flying from Manchester, England, was on final approach to the airport.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Easyjet (with NO fuel leak) Diverts to Hamburg

    What: Easyjet Airbus A319-100 en route from London to Tallinn
    Where: Hamburg
    When: Nov 12th 2009
    Who: 128 passengers,
    Why: While en route, the plane developed a fuel leak and diverted to Hamburg Germany.

    After landing, maintenance determined that there was no fuel leak, just a faulty fuel gauge.

    Passengers were supplied with alternative transportation.

    Qantas: Unspecified Fumes Hospitalize Attendants

    What: Qantas Boeing 767-300 en route from Perth Melbourne
    Where: Melbourne
    When: Jun 1 2010
    Who: 3 flight attendants
    Why: Prior to landing, three on board flight attendants became ill from fumes. After landing, they were hospitalized for observation and tests relating to non-specific exposure.

    Ethiopian Airlines Jet Crashes in Na’ameh Lebanon with 90 Passengers

    What: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 en route from Beirut to Addis Ababa
    Where: 2 miles west of the coastal village of Na’ameh.
    When: Jan 25 2010
    Who: 7 crew 83 passengers
    Why: Shortly after taking off in stormy weather and heavy lightning, Lebanese ATC lost contact. The plane disappeared from radar 45 minutes after leaving Beirut. Witnesses on the coast saw the plane as it crashed into the sea. So far 9 bodies have been found by members of the Lebanese army .
    Update
    Initial reports of 7 survivors, became 9 bodies, and now the count has reached 21 bodies.

    The site of the crash is 2 miles west of the coastal village of Na’ameh.

    Fifty-four passengers were Lebanese, 22 Ethiopian, two were British and there were also Canadian, Russian, French, Iraqi and Syrian nationals.

    A Cypriot police helicopter has joined the Lebanese army in the search for survivors, and two U.N. helicopters are on the scene.

    Ethiopian Airlines is state owned, and has a standing order of 10 of Boeing’s Next-Generation 737-800s

    ET-409 Incident – 25 January, 2010

    Ethiopian flight ET-409 scheduled to operate from Beirut to Addis Ababa on January 25th lost contact with the Lebanese air controllers shortly after take off. The flight departed at 02:35 Lebanese time from Beirut International Airport.

    Flight ET-409 carries 82 passenger plus 8 Ethiopian Crew members. Out of the total passengers 23 are Ethiopian, 51 Lebanese, 1 Turkish, 1 French, 2 British, 1 Russian, 1 Canadian, 1 Syrian, 1 Iraqi nationals.

    A team is already working on gathering all pertinent information. An investigative team has already been dispatched to the scene and we will release further information as further updates are received.

    ATR Emergency Landing in Sao Paulo

    What: Pantanal Linhas Aereas Avion de Transport Regional ATR-42-300 en route from Sao Paulo to Sao Jose de Rio Preto Brazil
    Where: Sao Paulo
    When: Jun 30 2011
    Who: 44 passengers
    Why: After takeoff, the plane’s right engine made an explosive noise and began emitting smoke and sparks, and the propeller stopped.

    The crew shut down that engine and returned to Sao Paulo. The pilot made a safe landing in Sao Paulo. Passengers were rebooked on another flight. Maintenance confirmed a leak in the right hand engine.

    Tracking Down #MH370 or Physics of an Air Space Game of Marco Polo


    The guessing/math triangulating the path of Inmarsat’s pings was the only thing experts seemed to agree on regarding to pinning down the location of Malaysia Airlines flight 370. Yet at the location, at least, the location according to the data laying out the path according to Inmarsat’s analysis, nothing was found in the recent search of the ocean floor off the coast of Australia. The engineers and mathematicians involved may have done their best but the guess seems to have been faulty or otherwise off somehow. If you will pardon the circular reasoning, if only we knew how it was off, we would know how it was off.

    Investigators have come up with two maps that can be drawn based on the ping data, based on the speed. The variation is due to considerations of the pings which do not indicate the speed or direction the plane was moving, but only the probable distance between plane and satellite.     However, there is opposition to the Inmarsat calculations which is presented by * Michael Exner (founder of the American Mobile Satellite Corporation) **Duncan Steel(physicist and visiting scientist at NASA’s Ames Research Center) and satellite technology consultant ***Tim Farrar which presents other data that should be considered.     My pragmatic response to these experts is a major simplification: just that the plane did not disappear into a textbook, under textbook conditions. The pings occurred in a real atmosphere, with atmospheric variations that were not and possibly could not have been taken into account. Not only are the speed, direction and height of the aircraft factors that must be taken into account, but also the quality of the atmosphere, density, weather, etc, plus factors that a non-mathmatical, non-scientist like myself would not even know how to bring into the picture. In this search at least, the untested math used is as vulnerable as statistics is to presenting a defective or imprecise representation, or a representation which would only be true under certain conditions.

    For further study on this, * Michael Exner, the Atlantic Official Explanation article, input from physicist **Duncan Steele (who calculates “a uniform ring radius based on the aircraft-satellite range given the elevation angle and the satellite’s altitude, and the latitude of the sub-satellite point, the aircraft being taken to be at the same latitude in this simplified geometry; and satellite consultant***Tim Farrar.
