    Antonov Crashes in Nekrasovka

    At 11:10 local time on June 28, an Antonov AN-2 with 9 people aboard made an emergency landing in Kabarovsk in a forested area near the village of Nekrasovka.

    Five people were injured, one in critical condition.

    Plane Carrying European Satellite Lands in Emergency in Ulyanovsk

    RuslanA Russian transport plane had to make an emergency landing in Ulyanovsk, Russia, on October 28.

    The An-124-100 Ruslan aircraft, owned by Volga-Dnieper Airlines, was transporting a European communications satellite Astra 2G from Moscow, Russia, to Baikonur, Kazakhstan, when the crew noticed an increase in temperature of its 4th engine. The engine was then shut off and the plane was diverted for emergency landing, after consultation with the client.

    The plane landed uneventfully and was taken for maintenance. The company confirmed that many parts of the engine were replaced.

    The Astra 2G satellite is scheduled to be launched from the Baikonur space center by a Proton-M carrier rocket, in the end of November. The satellite will provide communication services to various countries in Asia, Europe and Central Africa.

    Yemeni Military Crash Kills 5

    What: Yemen Air Force Antonov
    Where: Al-Anad Air Base, Yemen
    When: October 25, 2011
    Who: 15 aboard, 5 fatalities
    Why: A plane carrying eight Syrian engineers and seven Yemenis crashed while landing at Al-Anad on October 25 in the southern province of Lahij.

    Three Syrian technicians and one Yemeni died at the scene. Four, then five deaths have been reported.

    The condition of the survivors has not been released.

    6 Killed in Kazakhstan Plane Crash; 1 Survived

    An Antonov An-2 plane, belonging to Kazakhmys copper company, crashed in Zhambyl, Kazakhstan, at around 15:40 local time, on January 20.

    The accident happened when the plane was en-route to Shatyrkol copper mine from Karaganda region.

    There were 3 crew members and 4 company employees aboard at the time of crash. Authorities confirmed that only a woman survived.

    The cause of crash is under investigation.

    Antonov Overshoots Runway in Rough Weather

    What: IrAero Antonov An-24RV en route from Chita to Blagoveshchensk
    Where: Blagoveshchensk Airport, Russia
    When: August 08, 2011
    Who: 35 passengers, 5 crew, 10+ injuries
    Why: On approach to Blagoveshchensk airport, the plane encountered rough weather and overshot the runway.

    The plane encountered wind shear on approach, injuring ten passengers. The plane lost a wing in the landing, and the fuselage was damaged, coming to rest 200 meters from the runway. Three children were aboard.

    A passenger said (loosely quoted) “We were sitting closer to the wing. As soon as the plane touched the ground, it started to shake. Panic among the passengers, nobody knew what was happening. I heard children crying. When the plane finally stopped, I breathed a sigh of relief. Thank God, still alive!”

    Antonov Ferry Flight Down After Electrics Fail


    On December 26, 2012, an Antonov 2 TP made a hard landing in Sörmland Swedon while on a ferry flight to Arizona.

    THe plane suffered an electrical failure with all electrical instruments going down, forcing an emergency landing.

    The pilot Cody Purdon secured a landing in a field with no damage to the plane or those aboard. Halfbrother Peter Purdon explained they had flown to Sweden to buy the plane and were flying it home to Arizona; and they will have to reassess their schedule, based on how repairs go.
