    WestJet Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Smoke On Board

    WestJet flight WS-3161 made an emergency landing in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, on March 20th.

    The plane was coming from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, when the crew declared an emergency due to smoke in the cockpit and cabin.

    Delta Plane Returns to Georgia after Engine Failure due to Bird Strike

    Delta Airlines flight DL-2042 had to return and make an emergency landing at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Georgia, on March 11th.

    The McDonnell Douglas MD-90 flying to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, had to return after one of its engines failed due to bird strike.

    The plane landed safely.

    No one was injured.

    Gol Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Brazil

    GolGol Airlines flight G3-1620 had to return and make an emergency landing in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil, on April 26th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a problem with right hand engine.

    The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.

    Flybe flight BE-801 had to return and make an emergency landing at Cornwall Airport Newquay, England, on April 24th.

    The plane took off for Gatwick Airport, England, but had to turn back due to a cracked windshield.

    What: American Eagle Embraer en route from Los Angeles to Reno
    Where: near Fresno
    When: May 6th 2011 1:40 pm
    Who: 41 aboard
    Why: The flight had taken off and was en route when an odor was detected on board.

    The pilot diverted to Fresno made a safe landing, and taxied to the gate. Passengers were able to exit normally.

    The odor was described as a “hot, electrical ozone smell.” Mechanics examined the plane to find the source of the smell.
