    Coast Guard Rescues 4 in Gulf of Mexico

    What: Helicopter afloat in Gulf of Mexico
    Where: Terrebonne Parish
    When: September 1, 2010, 8:40 a.m.
    Who: Reid Aldrich of Nampa, Ind., David Portlock of Lafayette, Brian Meadows of Carencro, and John Howell of Cape Coral, Fla.
    Why: Helicopter over the Gulf of Mexico made an emergency landing IN the Gulf, staying afloat with flotation devices until rescued by two Coast Guard Dolphin helicopters. Good Samaritan fishing vessel, Nhu-Uyen and motor vessel CAPT. Joel assisted in the rescue. The injured were taken to Terrebonne General Medical Center. There were no fatalities.

    Piper Cherokee Lands on Longmont Road in Rush Hour Traffic


    What: PIPER PA-28-151 CHEROKEE, ARROW, WARRIOR, ACHER
    Where: Longmont

    Who: pilot
    Why: A pilot flying over Longmont had engine trouble and had to make an emergency landing.

    The pilot realized he could not make the airport, and maneuvered in position over the road. He managed to land on a busy road with substantial traffic but there was no impact and the plane and cars were undamaged. The pilot apparently coasted in with the engine off. Interview is below

    Piper Crash in Vero Beach neighborhood

    What: Piper PA-34-200T Seneca II
    Where: Nr. 12th Street and 34th Avenue Sun Villas, Vero Beach Florida
    When: Mar 5 2010
    Who: pilot and student pilot
    Why: While on a Paris Air training flight, the flight crashed near a canal and within 50 feet of homes. Both the pilot and student pilot were seriously injured and trapped inside the plane. The extrication took 90 minutes, after which one was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, and the other was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce.

    The plane’s owner is a New York surgeon who leases the piper to Paris Aviation.

    The passengers were in communication with the rescue team during the rescue, but were in serious condition on transport.

    What: Hendrick Motorsports Beechcraft Super King Air 200
    Where: Bull Mountain, seven miles from Blue Ridge Airport,
    When: October 24 2004
    Who: 2 pilots 10 passengers
    Why: On October 24 2004, en route to theNextel Cup Series, a Beechcraft Super King Air 200 owned by Hendrick Motorsports crashed in fog into Bull Mountain, seven miles from Blue Ridge Airport, carrying two pilots and ten passengers. Fatalities included Jon Hendrick and his twin daughters,and Ricky Hendrick. The plane missed its first landing attempt before veering off course and crashing; and the plane had not climbed to its temporarily assigned altitude of 2,600 feet; it instead descended to 1,800 feet before crashing. The cause was ruled failure to use an instrument approach and pilot error

    Entrepreneur, Dies Piloting Plane, 2 Sons, Woman Passenger, 4 dead

    What: Pilot/operator Ângelo Rafaeli D’élia Beechcraft V35 Bonanza # PT-CTL en route from Ponta Porã to Viracopos-Campinas
    Where: Marabá Paulista, São Paulo, Brazil
    When: October 1, 2011, 21:30
    Who: 4 fatalities
    Why: In the night, as rain was falling, the Beechcraft Bonanza en route for Campinas in Sao Paulo never made it to its destination, but crashed on farmland near Marabá Paulista, leaving a five foot crater. Four people died in the crash: entrepreneur Ângelo Rafaeli D’elia, 51, who was piloting the aircraft, the children Bruna D’Elia, 18 and Rafael Ângelo, 12 years, and Syhlvia Katheiny Torreta.

    Reports are that the pilot was lost, and that someone aboard the plane was sick. They asked for assistance from London’s control tower.

    Locals reported hearing an explosion when the plane impacted the ground.

    Cessna Accident in Juneau AK

    Why: While on a training flight, pilots were landing at Juneau International Airport on a wet runway when the plane’s gear collapsed.

    The pilot had been practicing touch-and-go landings.

    The plane came to rest on its side. The plane suffered significant damage. The runway was tied-up as the plane was towed to an aircraft parking area. The pilot and passenger survived.
