Why: Thirty minutes after takeoff, the plane developed smoke.
The pilots returned to Sao Paulo where they made a safe landing. The passengers who were not rebooked were scheduled to fly to Munich 19 hours later.

What: THY Turkish Airlines Airbus A340-300 en route from Bangkok to Istanbul
Where: Mumbai
When: Apr 1st 2010
Who: 289 passengers
Why: While en route, one of the engines developed problems, and the crew had to shut it down and decided to divert to Mumbai. The flight made a safe landing, and was towed to the gate.
140 passengers were directed to alternative airlines, and the rest were provided hotel accommodations and given a seat on a Turkish Airlines Friday flight.
Passengers were booked on alternative flights.

What: Easyjet Airbus A319-100 en route from London to Tallinn
Where: Hamburg
When: Nov 12th 2009
Who: 128 passengers,
Why: While en route, the plane developed a fuel leak and diverted to Hamburg Germany.
After landing, maintenance determined that there was no fuel leak, just a faulty fuel gauge.
Passengers were supplied with alternative transportation.

What: Delta Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-88 en route from Albuquerque to Atlanta

Why: While the flight was en route, on board systems indicated that the landing gear was malfunctioning. The plane circled Albuquerque for an hour burning off fuel before making a safe landing.

(“AEL”), was awarded a contract to supply Hermes(R) 450 Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) to the Brazilian Air Force. The contract is not in an amount that is material to Elbit Systems.
This project is a part of the Brazilian Air Forces’ objective to establish independent UAS capabilities, allowing for self-reliant operation and development of UAS in Brazil. Located in Porto Alegre in southern Brazil, AEL performs a variety of projects for the Brazilian Air Force, as well as other branches of the Brazilian Armed Forces.
Hermes(R) 450 is an experienced and mature UAS that has, to date, accumulated over 200,000 operational flight hours in various arenas worldwide. Its capabilities are suitable both for homeland security and anti-terror missions, and it can be equipped with a variety of advanced sensors, according to customers’ requirements. As part of the development of the Brazilian Air Forces’ future UAS, AEL will utilize technological capabilities of its parent company, Elbit Systems, and will also work with local Brazilian industries.

What: Arkefly Boeing 737-800 en route from Kittilä to Amsterdam
Where: Rovaniemi Finland

Who: 181 passengers, 7 crew
Why: After takeoff, the crew assumed there was a tail strike (no indication if this was witnessed or indicated by a resultant problem). The crew diverted to Rovaniemi where a maintenance crew was flown in to assess the plane.
Delta Airlines flight DL-603 had to return and make an emergency landing in Mexico City, Mexico, on November 26th.
The Airbus A319-100 plane took off for Salt Lake City, Utah, but had to turn back due to an engine issue.
The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
