    Air Asia Plane Overruns Runway at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport

    Air Asia flight AK-9700 overran the end of the runway upon landing at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Malaysia, on November 30th.

    The incident happened when the Airbus A320-200 plane was coming from Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia.

    There were four crew members aboard at the time; none of them were injured.

    Cargo Plane Crashes into Bay of Bengal; 3 Dead, 1 Injured

    A Russian cargo plane crashed into the Bay of Bengal, off the coast of Cox’s Bazar district of Bangladesh, on March 9th.

    The Antonov An-26 plane, belonging to True Aviation cargo service, was transporting shrimp from Cox’s Bazar airport to Jessore district, Bangladesh, when it went down. According to airport manager Sadhan Kumar, “Before the crash the pilot sent us a message saying one of the two engines of the plane went out of order… We prepared the airport for its emergency landing but the aircraft could not make its way back here.”

    There were four Ukrainian crew members aboard at the time; three of them were killed in the crash while fourth one was injured.

    The crash is under investigation.

    Pilatus Crash in Mexico


    On Feb 21, 2013, a Fuerza Aérea Mexicana Pilatus PC-6/B2-H4 Turbo Porter with two aboard en route from San­ta Lu­cía AFB was over San­ta Lu­cía AFB, Es­ta­do de Mé­xi­co on a training exercise when it crashed.

    Two people were reported injured, who were taken to nearby hospitals.

    The two aboard were later reported as fatalities.

    Black Hawk Helicopter Crashes at Texas University; 1 killed, no students hurt


    What: Army Black HawkUH-60 helicopter
    Where: campus of Texas A&M University near the Corps of Cadets field on the school’s College Station campus, about 100 miles northwest of Houston
    When: Jan-12-09
    Who: 4 Army National Guard and an Army lieutenant assigned to the school’s ROTC unit were the only ones aboard. Three men are in critical condition at College Station Medical Center. One is at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan
    Why: A witness described that after lift off, the helicopter seemed to lose control, spun then dropped straight down.

  • Small Plane Crashed at Ravalli County Airport

    A small plane crashed at the Ravalli County Airport in Hamilton, Montana, on June 4th.

    The plane was attempting to land at the airport when its left wing struck the ground, causing it to flip over. The plane was flying from Idaho at the time.

    There were three people aboard, including the pilot and two passengers; one of them was injured in the incident while the other two remained unharmed.

    The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

    Glider Crash Sends Two to hospitals


    A Flugsportclub Aschaffenburg Scheibe SF 25C Rotax Falke which had taken off from Aschaffenburg was returning from a scenic flight when it crashed in a muddy field next to the Hessian-Bavarian border near Großostheim airfield.

    The pilot and passenger were taking advantage of pretty weather.

    The two aboard the plane were trapped for an hour. Rescue was delayed by the mud in the field which made approaching with rescue equipment difficult.

    A dozen rescue personnel, two paramedics, and forty firemen and policemen responded.

    After they were extracted, they were flown to separate hospitals. The 63 year female passenger was flown to Aschaffenburg hospital. The 82 year old pilot was taken to Frankfurt University Trauma Center.

    The Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (Bundesstelle für Flugunfalluntersuchungen) is investigating. No cause of the crash has yet been advanced.
