Why: The flight landed with crew reporting smoke. No fire was found.
American Airlines flight 3749 made an emergency landing at Norfolk International Airport in Virginia, on March 15th.
The plane took off from LaGaurdia Airport, New York, and was heading to Norfolk when the crew reported smoke in the cockpit and declared emergency.
The plane landed safely. All 26 passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
The incident is being investigated.
On Jan 11, 2013, Flight 1868, an American Airlines MD-80 en route from Las Vegas to Dallas was in the air when a problem developed in a plane generator. There were 150 passengers and 5 crew.
The Captain told passengers that the backup generator failed, so they had to divert to Albuquerque International where they made a safe landing at 8:30 a.m.
No injuries were reported.
Passengers were informed the plane was going to maintenance and they were placed on alternative flights to Dallas.

What: Windjet Airbus A319-100 en route from Rome to Palermo

Why: Landing in Palermo in thunderstorms and windshear, the plane landed shy of the runway and struck an antenna. The plane’s two main gear struts collapsed.
3 of the passengers evacuated via emergency chutes were injured. The ANSV has commenced the investigation. The jet is owned by a US based aircraft leasing company with offices in Dublin, one of four aircraft leased to Windjet by International Lease Finance Corporation who has offices in Dublin’s North Wall Quay.
The Palermo airport will be closed until the jet is removed from the runway. The Palermo airport is renowned for mechanical turbulence.

What: Spirit Airlines Airbus A321-200 en route from Fort Lauderdale to New York

Why: On departure, the Spirit Airlines Airbus struck a bird reportedly the size of a turkey just below the windshield. 36 minutes after departure, and after dumping fuel,
the flight returned to Ft. Lauderdale for an inspection. No one was injured. No indication was made of another bird striking the aircraft. Although emergency vehicles were on standby, plane operations appeared to be normal. Passengers were provided an alternative flight within 4 hours.

What: Cessna T206H Turbo Stationair en route from Krugersdorp to Wonderboom Airport in Pretoria

Why: The flight crashed in a valley in the Magaliesberg mountains (North West Province, South Africa), and on impact burst into flames. A police helicopter found the wreckage around 10.15 am, although the location was not accessible by helicopter. A rescue unit hiked in though a heavy mist. No survivors.
UPS flight 5X-63 made a safe emergency landing at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, Anchorage, Alaska, on May 16th.
The Boeing 747-400, flying from Hong Kong, China, was flying above the Pacific Ocean when the crew notice a slow oil leakage from one of its engines. The crew had to shut the engine down before landing.
The plane landed safely.
No one was injured.
