    Swiss International Air Lines Flight Returns to Stockholm After Engine Fire Indication

    Swiss International Air Lines flight LX-1233 had to return for an emergency landing in Stockholm, Sweden, on December 27th.

    The Airbus A319-100 plane took off for Geneva, Switzerland, but had to turn back after the crew received an engine fire indication.

    The crew had activated the fire suppression system before the plane landed back safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Aer Lingus Flight Returns to Dublin After Hydraulic Failure

    Aer Lingus flight EI-109 had to return and make an emergency landing in Dublin, Ireland, on August 31st.

    The Airbus A330-300 plane took off for John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a hydraulic failure.

    The plane landed back safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Air Astana Tail Strike in Amsterdam

    What: Air Astana Boeing 767-300 en route from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Atyrau (Kazakhstan)
    Where: Amsterdam
    When: Jan 4th 2012
    Who: n/a
    Why: During takeoff, the Air Astana Boeing had a tail strike, observed on the ground by the Air Italia following this flight, lined up for takeoff. Passengers reported hearing a “bang” of contact.

    After burning off fuel for two hours, the pilots returned to an Amsterdam runway where they made a safe landing and submitted to a safety inspection. The cause is being attribute to possible “wind, wind vortices or too rapid rotation.”

    The flight took off again after two hours, this time without a tail strike.

    Expressjet Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Hydraulic Problem

    ExpressJetExpressjet flight EV-5621 made an emergency landing in Newark, New Jersey, on June 12th.

    The plane was flying from Detroit, Michigan, when the crew reported a hydraulic problem and requested emergency assistance.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All 45 people aboard remained unharmed.

    Lufthansa Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Hydraulic Issues

    Lufthansa flight LH-854 had to return and make an emergency landing in Frankfurt, Germany, on July 29th.

    The Airbus A321-100 plane took off for Helsinki, Finland, but had to turn back after the crew noticed hydraulic issues.

    Jetstar Airways Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Coolangatta

    Jetstar Airways flight JQ-967 made an emergency landing in Coolangatta, Queensland, Australia, on December 20th.

    The A320-200 plane flying from Cairns, Queensland, Australia, was on approach to Coolangatta when fumes were noticed on-board, and all six crew members complained of dizziness, light-headedness, and nausea.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. The crew members were taken to hospitals.

    There were no passengers aboard the flight.
