What: Windrose Air Jetcharter Hawker Beechcraft 390 Premier IA en route from Zagreb Croatia to St. Moritz Switzerland

Why: A corporate jet scheduled eventually to fly to Rome aborted its landing and banked into a transformer in St. Moritz, bursting into flames. The German pilot and first officer did not survive the crash.

Where: Near the U.S. Forest Service building in Kamiah, in the northern Idaho Clearwater Region

Who: 3 fatalities:Larry Barrett, 47, of Lewiston, Idaho, Dani Schiff, 34, also of Lewiston, pilot Perry J. Krinitt, 43, of Belgrade, Mont.
Why: The biologists were counting salmon spawning nests on the nearby Selway River.
The crash is attributed to an apparent mechanical malfunction in the helicopter. Witnesses say the helicopter was making popping sounds and that material was coming off it before it nosedived straight down. The pilot struggled to keep the helicopter from crashing into a nearby school. It ended up in a driveway, damaging a home and a trailer.

What: Jetblue Airbus A320-200 en route from Long Beach,CA to Sacramento,CA
Where: Sacramento
When: Aug 26th 2010
Who: 86 passengers and 5 crew
Why: On making a “hard” landing at the Sacramento airport, a brake problem developed (brakes locked?).
The main gear tires blew, and caught afire. Emergency services on hand responded to the fire.
Passengers evacuated by slide with 15 injured.

What: US Airways/PSA Airlines Canadair CRJ-200 en route from Charleston West Virginia to Charlotte, North Carolina

Who: 30 passengers and 3 crew
Why: During takeoff, the pilot overran runway 23. The takeoff was aborted as the pilot responded to a warning signal, coming to a stop before a steep drop at the runway’s end. We don’t know the extent of damage but it is expensive, especially to the EMAS (and the plane!), but apparently there were no reported injuries. EMAS is credited for saving the lives of the crew and passengers as when the pilot braked during take-off, the plane impacted the Engineered Material Arresting System.
The Yeager Airport EMAS is a system of concrete blocks designed to collaps to bring a plane to a safe stop.
A fixed-wing motor glider aircraft crashed at the Telluride Ski Area, Telluride, Colorado, on August 24th.
Two people including the pilot were killed in the crash.
The cause of the crash has not been reported yet.
A small plane crash-landed at Hayward Airport in California, on December 18.
It is believed that the twin engine prop plane experienced a landing gear problem upon landing.
There were two people aboard at the time; none of them were harmed.
