Virgin Atlantic flight VS-89 had to return and make an emergency landing at Gatwick Airport, England, on July 27th.
The Airbus A330-300 plane took off for Saint Lucia but had to return shortly afterwards due to a hydraulic issue.
The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

Why: While en route, the crew reported a fire alert. They diverted to Vancouver, apparently handling the fire on approach; and they made a safe landing in Vancouver, where the plane was looked over.
Lufthansa flight LH-582 made an emergency landing in Izmir, Turkey, on June 1st.
The Airbus A321-200 plane heading from Frankfurt, Germany, to Cairo, Egypt, was diverted after an electrical odor was noticed in the aft lavatory and cabin.
The plane landed safely. All one hundred and sixty-three people aboard remained unharmed.
Lufthansa flight LH-2085 made an emergency landing in Munich, Germany, on February 5th.
The Airbus A320-200 plane flying from Hamburg, Germany, was on approach to Munich when the crew received repeated lavatory smoke indications and requested a direct approach.
The plane continued for a safe landing. There were 137 people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.
The Egyptair Airbus A320 known as flight MS-804 that departed May 18th from Charles de Gaulle airport and disappeared over the Mediterranean in Egyptian airspace apparently has been found. Jun 15th 2016 Egypt’s Civil Aviation Authority reported that the “John Lethbridge” identified A320 wreckage locations. Currently the area in question is being mapped, part of the planning process of wreckage recovery.
Fifty-six passengers and ten crew died in the wreckage.

American Airlines flight AA-5224 returned to Wilmington International Airport, North Carolina, on October 9th.
According to the airport authorities, the Canadair CRJ-900 plane hit a coyote during takeoff which caused damage to the nose gear. The crew continued takeoff but subsequently returned to Wilmington Airport.
The coyote was killed.
Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

Why: Over Greenland, the Airbus A330-300 developed APU and generator failure. On board electrics failed (right hand generator (engine Trent 772), affecting reading lights, cabin and lav lighting. The crew initially was going to divert to Edmonton, but diverted to Calgary when there was a medical emergency.
The flight made a safe landing.
