    Lufthansa Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Munich

    Lufthansa flight LH-2085 made an emergency landing in Munich, Germany, on February 5th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane flying from Hamburg, Germany, was on approach to Munich when the crew received repeated lavatory smoke indications and requested a direct approach.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. There were 137 people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

    Aeromexico Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Heathrow Airport

    Aeromexico flight AM-8 made an emergency landing at Heathrow Airport, England, on February 9th.

    The plane took off for Mexico City, Mexico, but had to turn back due to an air conditioning problem.

    The plane landed safely. All two hundred and thirty-seven people aboard remained unharmed.

    KY: 1947 Plane runs out of gas on median

    What: 1947 Stinson 10A en route from Mason City, Iowa, to Boone, North Carolina
    Where: four miles west of London in the median of KY 80
    When: 3 p.m. Wednesday October 7
    Who: 62-year-old pilot Wayne Alsworth, of Sterling, Alaska
    Why: The landing was due to running low on fuel. Fuel was procured for the pilot, who was able to then take off and go to the nearest airport to fill his tank.

    Air Canada Flight Returns to France due to Hydraulic Failure

    Air Canada flight AC-885 had to return and make an emergency landing at Charles de Gaulle Airport, France, on June 22nd.

    The Airbus A330-300 plane took off for Montreal, Canada, but had to turn back due to a hydraulic failure.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    What: Continental Airlines Colgan Air de Havilland Dash 8-400 en route from Newark to Montreal .
    Where: Burlington,VT
    When: Apr 3rd 2009
    Who: 33 passengers and 4 crew
    Why: The pilot and crew reported high temperatures, requesting diversion to Albany, NY. They shut down the left engine but decided against Albany because of weather (severe precipitation), and landed instead at Burlington,VT.

    Emergency landings are always a cause for concern. The pilot who responds with a cool head and skill in an emergency situation is to be commended.

    What about the maintenance of the plane? Who chose to fly instead of maintain, or to maintain in half-measures? Someone needs to look into this–

    United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Chicago

    United Airlines flight UA-2192 made an emergency landing in Chicago, Illinois, on May 29th.

    The Boeing 737-900 plane flying from Tampa, Florida, was on final approach to Chicago when the crew declared an emergency due to issues with flaps and slats.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
