The landing missed power lines and cars as he stopped in the middle of the busy road. The plane was reportedly undamaged in spite of landing in the dark.
The pilot received encouragement from KCCI Chief Meterologist and pilot John McLaughlin who was flying at the time and heard him on the onboard radio

Delta Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Kansas City
Delta Airlines flight DL-923 made an emergency landing in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 16th.
The Boeing 717-200 plane flying from Detroit, Michigan, was descending toward Kansas City when the crew requested emergency assistance due to an engine problem.
The plane landed safely. All one hundred and seventeen people aboard remained unharmed.

United Airlines Flight Diverts to Halifax, Canada
The United Airlines Flight 999 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Canada’s Halifax Stanfield International Airport on the night of August 5.
The Boeing 777 was on its way to Brussels from Newark, New Jersey, when fire broke out on board. The pilot then decided to divert to Halifax which was the nearest airport at the time.
Firefighters were put on alert at the airport when the plane touched the ground safely at around 10 p.m. There were 233 people aboard; all of them remained unhurt.
According to Peter Spurway, the spokesperson of Halifax Airport Authority, the fire broke in a contained area of the aircraft and was extinguished before the plane landed.
British Airways Jet Makes Emergency Landing at Heathrow Airport
British Airways flight BA292 had to make an emergency landing at Heathrow Airport in London, England, on September 11.
The Boeing 777 was en-route from Dulles International Airport, Virginia, to Heathrow Airport, when the pilots declared emergency due to a ‘technical issue’.
The plane landed safely just 2 minutes before its scheduled landing time. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
