Why: A couple of minutes after takeoff, the plane struck a flock of birds, and had to return to the airport.
The strikes damaged the windshield, the airplane’s skin, and the damage affected the pressurization in the cabin.
LOT Polish Airlines flight LO-775 made an emergency landing in Vilnius, Lithuania, on August 26th.
The plane was flying from Warsaw, Poland, when the crew reported an issue with flaps and decided to make a flaps up landing.
The plane landed safely at a higher than normal speed. Everyone aboard remained safe.
United Airlines flight UA-351 made an emergency landing at O’Hare International Airport, Chicago, Illinois, on July 7th.
The Boeing 757-200 plane heading from Boston, Massachusetts, to San Francisco, California, was diverted due to problems with crew oxygen supply.
The plane landed safely.
Cathay Pacific flight CX-250 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Novosibirsk, Russia, on November 23rd.
The plane heading from London, United Kingdom, to Hong Kong, China, was diverted due to a smoke indication for the aft cargo hold.
The plane landed safely. There were 214 passengers and 18 crew members aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.
Hawaiian Airlines flight HA-442 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Narita International Airport, Narita, Tokyo, Japan, on July 28th.
The Boeing 767 en-route to Honolulu, Hawaii, from Sapporo, Japan, was mid-air when the crew detected some issue with its hydraulic system.
The plane landed uneventfully.
All 248 passengers and crew members onboard remained unharmed.

Who: Fed Ex crew
Why: The plane’s emergency light indicated overheating after leaving Reno, and the crew requested to return, before entering a holding pattern over Carson City and Minden to burn off fuel. The plane landed safely in Reno; the packages were not delayed.
