    What: Icelandair Boeing 757-200 en route from Paris to Reykjavik
    Where: emergency landing at Gatwick in London
    When: Jun 4th 2009
    Who: 148 passengers
    Why: The engine made a loud noise and the crew declared an emergency, and shut down the engine. After the emergency landing in London, passengers waited for substitute Icelandair and Iceland Express planes to take them on to Reykjavik, while some returned to Paris.

    United Airways Plane makes Emergency Landing in Bangladesh due to Engine Trouble

    united airwaysA United Airways flight had to make an emergency landing at Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka, Bangladesh, on the night of January 12.

    The plane had to be landed in emergency minutes after taking off, after the crew noticed “mechanical fault in one of its engines”.

    The plane landed safely.

    All 170 passengers aboard remained unhurt.

    Mahan Air Plane Skids Off Runway, Crashes into Concrete Barrier at Istanbul Airport

    mahanA Mahan Air plane crashed into a concrete barrier at Istanbul Atatürk Airport, Turkey, on December 24.

    The Airbus A310 plane, performing flight W5-112 from Tehran, Iran, skidded off the runway and crashed into a concrete barrier.

    There were 150 passengers aboard at the time; all of them were evacuated safely.

    The cause of crash is under investigation.

    American Airlines Flight Diverts to Yakima

    What: American Airlines Boeing 737-800 en route from Seattle to Chicago
    Where: Yakima
    When: Oct 04 2010
    Who: 149 passengers and 6 crew, 1 ill passenger
    Why: When a passenger on the flight became ill, the flight diverted to Yakima, where the passenger was taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital after a safe landing. The landing was uneventful except for brakes overheating.

    After a 7.5 hour delay, passengers were back en route.

    Viva Aerobus Lightning strike

    What: Viva Aerobus Boeing 737 300 en route from Cancun to Tuxtla Gutierre, Mexico
    Where: Villahermosa Mexico
    When: May 27 2012
    Who: 108 aboard
    Why: After a successful takeoff, the plane depressurized. Pilots diverted to Villahermosa where they made a safe landing.

    Mexican news reported that the plane was struck by lightning, and that when the pilots made a safe diversion and landing to Villahermosa, the plane was repaired.

    Passengers were reluctant to re-board but the flight continued at 19:15 hours on the same plane, after repairs. At the time of takeoff, there were still storms in the mountainous region of Chiapas.

    IndiGo Flight Rejects Takeoff due to Bird Strikes

    IndiGo flight 6E-287 had to reject takeoff from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India, on August 30th.

    The plane was accelerating to takeoff for Bangalore, India, when the crew rejected takeoff due to bird strikes.

    The plane safely returned to the apron. All one hundred and seventy-eight people aboard remained safe.
