What: Lufthansa Airbus A330-300 en route from Philadelphia to Frankfurt
Where: near Halifax
When: Feb 5th 2010
Why: While en route, the crew flew into extreme turbulence, which dropped their altitude by about 600 feet. The flight continued without evasive measures to its destination and made a safe landing in Frankfurt.
Air New Zealand flight NZ-677 made an emergency landing in Christchurch, New Zealand, on January 16th.
The Airbus A320-200 plane heading from Auckland to Dunedin, New Zealand, was diverted after the crew received an unsafe gear indication.
The plane landed safely. All one hundred and eighteen people aboard remained unharmed.

What: Flair Airlines Boeing 737-400 en route from Stephenville to St. John’s
Where: St. Johns
When: Dec 15th 2009
Who: not available
Why: While on approach, the flight developed a flaps problem and performed a go around. The crew landed the plane safely a quarter of an hour later with no complications.
United Airlines flight 401 had to make an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport, California, on January 11.
The Airbus A319, travelling from Denver, Colorado, declared emergency due to a suspected mechanical problem.
The plane landed uneventfully and all 120 passengers aboard remained unharmed.
The nature of mechanical problem is not clear at the moment.

What: Philippine Airlines A343 en route from Manila to Vancouver, BC
Where: Vancouver BC
When: Jul 9th 2009
Why: While over the Pacific, the pilot shut down one of the engines for an unspecified reason. They landed under emergency circumstances without assistance in Vancouver. No injuries were reported.

What: US Airways Boeing 757-200 en route from Orlando to Philadelphia
Where: Lynchburg
When: Apr 16th 2011
Who: flight attendant
Why: The plane took off as normal with no problem, but encountered turbulence near Lynchburg Virginia, during which a flight attendant was seriously injured.
The pilot descended to a lower altitude, and landed safely in Philadelphia less than an hour later.

A Lufthansa Airbus A321-131 #D-AIRE en route from Barcelona to Frankfurt Airport had taken off when the left engine developed problems.
The flight returned make a safe landing in Barcelona.
The problem may have been a bird strike.
Emergency services were on standby as the plane landed. An alternative flight was arranged. None of the 200 aboard were injured.
