United Airlines flight 401 had to make an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport, California, on January 11.
The Airbus A319, travelling from Denver, Colorado, declared emergency due to a suspected mechanical problem.
The plane landed uneventfully and all 120 passengers aboard remained unharmed.
The nature of mechanical problem is not clear at the moment.
Air New England Flight 248, a de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter, crashed near Camp Greenough, a Boy Scout camp in Massachusetts. The flight was on approach to Barnstable Municipal Airport. There were ten passengers and two crew members aboard. Only the pilot died. After impacting the ground, one of the passengers, 19-year-old Suzanne Mourad went for help. In 2009, another passenger, Robert Sabbag, wrote a book entitled Down Around Midnight about the crash.
KLM flight KL-1641 had to return and make an emergency landing in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on January 19th.
The plane took off for Florence, Italy, but had to turn back due to the failure of anti-ice systems.

The crew performed a low approach and subsequently landed safely.
The plane stopped on the runway. No injuries were reported.
