What: American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-83 en route from San Diego CA to Chicago
Where: Phoenix
When: Feb 9th 2010
Why: While en route, on board indicators detected a hydraulic leak. The flight diverted to Phoenix AZ where it made a safe landing. Passengers were provided alternative flights.

What: Air India Flight 680 en route from Delhi to Kolkata
Where: IGI Airport, Delhi
When: Jan 5 2011
Who: 152 passengers including Union Ministers Mamata Banerjee and Mukul Roy
Why: The plane was en route but returned to Delhi after 45 minutes due to an undisclosed technical problem. The plane made a safe landing under emergency conditions at 9:10 pm. Passengers waited an hour, and an alternative plane took off with them aboard to Kolkata at 10:45 pm
A small Piper Cherokee plane made an emergency landing at Red Hill and McGaw avenues in Irvine, Orange County, California, on September 16.
Authorities said the plane, owned by Orange Coast College, came to rest at MacArthur Boulevard near John Wayne Airport.
There were 2 people, including a student pilot and an instructor, aboard at the time; none of them reported any injuries.
The FAA is looking into the cause of crash.
Ryanair flight FR-3445 had to return and make an emergency landing at Manchester Airport, Manchester, England, UK, on April 1st.
The Boeing 737-800, en-route to Palma, Mallorca, Spain, was mid-air after departure when a bird impacted the aircraft, prompting the crew to stop the climb and return.
The plane’s right hand engine was affected by the bird strike.
All people onboard remained unharmed.

What: Primera Air Boeing 737-700 en route from Greece to Dublin
Where: Dublin
When: Aug 14th 2009
Who: 148 passengers and 6 crew
Why: High fuel consumption observed during the flight appeared to point to a fuel leak, leading to an emergency landing in Dublin. The “minor” leak that was discovered in the left engine was repaired.

Maintenance saves the day, again…
American Airlines had to return and make an emergency landing in Miami, Florida, on November 2nd.
The Boeing 767-300 plane took off for San Juan, Puerto Rico, but had to turn back due to due to a pressurization problem.
While returning, the plane experienced a landing gear problem on first approach but subsequently landed safely on second approach.
All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

What: American Airlines Boeing 737-800 en route from Miami,FL to Washington National,DC
Where: Washington

Who: 97 people on board
Why: On approach to Washington National, the crew found themselves without feedback from ATC. They declared the airport uncontrolled. The tower frequency was declared an advisory frequency and landed safely without clearance.
